History of Zhenhua Road in Dongguan

From 65438 to 0932, Liu Jiwen from Dongguan was appointed as the mayor of Guangzhou. With the support of Chen, who was in charge of Guangdong affairs at that time, this architectural style was introduced to Dongguan. Chen Dacai, then the county magistrate of Dongguan and vice president of Mingluntang, was a classmate of Liu Jiwen when he was studying at Waseda University, and had frequent contacts. Naturally, he "borrowed" Guangzhou's "arcade" building to Dongguan to build it. In the Republic of China, planning began in 19 (1930), but for various reasons, it was not until 193 1 that the streets and lanes were officially ordered to be demolished to build roads. Transform Ying 'en Street, Daxi Street and Yiqian Street into Zhenhua Road. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Zhenhua Road consisted of three roads: Yiqian Street, Daxi Street and Ying 'en Street from north to south. It was only merged into Zhenhua Road in 1930s. The areas to be demolished today are Daxi Street and Ying 'en Street.

Dongguan arcade is an important part of Lingnan arcade, which gave birth to the early commercial culture of Dongguan and carried the commercial and folk culture of Lingnan in modern times. Many people in Create have deep feelings for her. In the heyday of Zhenhua Road, one of the few big shopping malls in Dongguan was located in Zhenhua Road-Canal Shopping Mall. People from all towns in the city go to Zhenhua Road to set up stalls or shop. There are many prosperous hotels on Zhenhua Road, such as Guancheng Hotel, Jiangnan Hotel and Overseas Chinese Hotel. This directly promoted the commercial development along Zhenhua Road.

After more than 70 years of wind and rain, some arcades were destroyed by war, some were demolished, and some collapsed due to disrepair. In 2000, Dongguan invested in redecorating Daxi Road, Zhenhua Road, Zhongxing Road and other old urban areas, maintaining the original street pattern, hoping to make the arcade a new bright spot for Dongguan to build a national tourist city, and let Zhenhua Road reproduce the glory of that year. However, on 20 10, many arcades on Zhenhua Road have been demolished or damaged due to the need of old city reconstruction and Hooke Road construction, which has also caused people to discuss the protection and development of arcades, urban economic development and historical relics protection.
