Li Shangyin (813-858), whose courtesy name was Yishan, also known as Yuxisheng and Fan Nansheng, was from Hanoi (now Qinyang), Huaizhou, Tang Dynasty. His grandfather moved to Xingyang, Zhengzhou. Shang Yin was born when his father was the magistrate of Huojia County. When he was 3 years old, he lived with his father in Zhejiang and spent 6 spring and autumn years. When he was 10 years old, his father died of illness and he returned to his hometown with his mother. He described his situation at that time as: "There is no place to return to, and the nine tribes have no relatives to rely on." Congshu Li refused to serve as an official. In the following years, Shangyin and his younger brother "taught classics personally and wrote articles" from Congshu. At the age of 15, he learned from the immortal Yuyang. At the age of 16, he wrote two ancient essays, "Taipei Lun" and "Sheng Lun", which were quite prestigious. Li Shangyin was a famous poet in the late Tang Dynasty. His poems mostly reflected real life and exposed the ignorance, corruption and intrigues of feudal rulers. They are of great value to the study of the social history and poetry development of the late Tang Dynasty. The famous works handed down from generation to generation include "Collected Works of Fan Nan", "Collected Poems of Yuxi Sheng", etc.

He was born and raised in Xingyang. Although he has been to many places as an official, he is definitely not named Yuxi in Yunnan
