Where is Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes?

Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes is located 25 kilometers southeast of Dunhuang City, Gansu Province. Mogao Grottoes, commonly known as Thousand Buddha Cave, is located in Dunhuang at the western end of Hexi Corridor. Founded in the pre-Qin period of sixteen countries, it went through sixteen countries, Northern Dynasties, Sui and Tang Dynasties, Five Dynasties, Xixia and Yuan Dynasties.

It has formed a huge scale, with 735 caves, 45,000 square meters of murals and 24 15 clay sculptures. It is the largest and richest Buddhist art place in the world.

Millennium architecture image data shows a history of China architecture. What is commendable is that the essence of Dunhuang building materials reflects the architectural style from the Northern Dynasties to the Sui and Tang Dynasties for 400 years, filling the gap in the lack of building materials from the Southern and Northern Dynasties to the Tang Dynasty.

In addition, in different periods, more than 800 cave buildings with different shapes, five wooden cave eaves in Tang and Song Dynasties and stupas in cave temples are precious building materials preserved from ancient times to the present.
