Korla is a county-level city and the capital of Bayinguoleng Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang. It is called Pear City because it is rich in fragrant pears. This city is located in the middle of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. There are 23 ethnic groups including Han, Uygur, Mongolian and Hui, and ethnic minorities account for about 30% of the total population. It is the largest city in southern Xinjiang and the second largest city in Xinjiang after Urumqi.
