How to plan a route when traveling in Beijing for a week

D1 Forbidden City, Jingshan

Entering the Forbidden City from Tiananmen Square, you can spend a whole day walking around. Don’t worry, the Forbidden City is worth spending a day to see slowly. Don’t think about it taking three hours to complete. , meaningless. Go out in the evening and go up to Jingshan Mountain to watch the sunset in Beijing. It is very beautiful when the weather is good. After coming down from Jingshan, if you have the energy, you can ride to Sanlian Bookstore and feel the charm of the 24-hour bookstore.

Additional information a year and a half later: Sanlian Bookstore has closed

D2 Great Wall

I definitely do not recommend going to Badaling. If you must go to the Great Wall, Badaling is just There is no choice, there are too many people, and there is all kinds of chaos. If you have more outdoor experience, you can search for Jiankou by yourself. This is the most beautiful section of the Great Wall in Beijing. However, arrow buttons are very dangerous and accidents occur almost every year! Definitely not recommended for those without outdoor experience! If you are just a general tourist, you can choose Mutianyu, take 916 at Dongzhimen and transfer to Huairou quickly, or charter a car there.

After coming down from the Great Wall, don’t rush back to the city. You can go to Liyuan Library.

This is the place.

The introduction on Douban is as follows:

Introduction to liyuan library

In the suburbs of Huairou, Beijing, a small single-story library with a wooden frame and full glass lighting, 175 square meters. The wooden platform is both a book reading area and a rest area. A natural bookstore composed of 40,000 firewood sticks, the bookstore is like a square "bird's nest". The outside is wrapped by densely packed wooden sticks of the same length and thickness, and the inside is made of highly permeable glass. On the last two floors of the bookstore, the bookcases are arranged in an orderly manner, displaying books on literature, history, family planning, and planting...

This library is only open on weekends, so you need to arrange your time.

This place is in Jiehe Village, Huairou. You can rent a car there from Mutianyu. Then find a nearby farmhouse to stay for one night, or stay one night near Mutianyu, go there early the next morning, and then return to the city after watching the tour. Note that there are limited buses back to the city from there, so you need to inquire with the villagers about the bus schedule in advance.

If you decide to go back to the city on the same day, you need to pay attention to the time. Buses at tourist spots usually leave early. Thank you @Scarlett’s Little Red Gloves for the reminder.

After arriving in Huairou, you can take 916 to return to the city and get off at Dashanzi (the express train is not available, so you need to ask the driver in advance if he is going to Dashanzi). When you arrive in Dashanzi, you have three choices. If you are interested in movies, you can go to the Beijing Film Museum and take the 418 to Heiqiao. If you are interested in trains, you can go to the Railway Museum and take the Circular Railway. Yes, there is a bus stop called the Circular Railway, which is a comprehensive railway test base. (Thanks to @木伊阳 for reminding me that the 916 local train takes more time. You can take the high-speed 916 to Sanyuanqiao and then take the bus back. Overall, it should be faster than taking the local train.)

Circular Railway Test Line (round testing railway line) The China Academy of Railway Sciences’ round testing base is located in the eastern suburbs of Chaoyang District, Beijing. The base covers an area of ??64 hectares and was built in 1958. It is the only comprehensive railway test base in China and even Asia. There are test lines in the base. Among them, there is a perfect circular curve with a radius of 1 432 m and a circumference of 9 km (commonly known as the big ring)
