The Historical Evolution of Bahe Town

Bahe Town has a long history. As early as the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, the fatuous King Chu Ping killed Wu's brother, occupied his sister-in-law, and killed several families in Wu. Wu Zixu was chased and forced to go to Wu, where a fisherman helped him cross the river and escape from danger. His land, Wuzhen City, is now Wuzhou. In the 23rd year of Jianwu in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 47), Ba people moved here, so the river was named Bashui, and the town was also named Bahe Town. Sun Quan of the Three Kingdoms resisted Cao Yu's camp in Chengshan. After the Three Kingdoms, the rulers changed Wuzhen to Chengguan Town of Daixian County, and Huang Chao opposed the Tang Dynasty's stationing troops in Ershan to plant flags. Su Dongpo went boating in Lianer Lake to welcome the child; In the Qing Dynasty, the yamen of the Ministry of Water was set up. During the Qianlong period, Daixian County was changed to Qishui County and moved to Qingquan Town. Qishui County was relocated and changed to Xiaba River, which was the district government during the Republic of China. During the Japanese occupation, Bahe was once the seat of the puppet county government. Bahe Town has undergone such four renaming. Because of the convenient transportation, businessmen from all over the world gather here for regular trade activities, thus forming a market, which was once called Xiaohankou in prosperous times. 200 1, the original Bahe Town, Bayi Town and Xihe Township merged into the present Bahe Town.
