Life profile Zeng Zhanhong, formerly known as Zeng Qitu, is a native of Zhongshan County, Guangdong Province. His business is making antiques. The Zeng family was well-off, gentle, courteous and frugal. According to Zeng 1928, in the preface to Xiang Xi Lu, he said that he had been playing chess for more than forty years, and he was born in Guangxu of Qing Dynasty for six years (1880).

In the modern southern chess world, Zeng Zhanhong gained a high reputation for his modesty, generosity, enthusiasm for his career and superb chess skills. Zeng Zhanhong frequently shuttled north and south, transmitting information and connecting feelings, which contributed to the "East China South China Chess" and "East China North China Chess". He contributed to the prosperity of old China chess, and won the title of "Three Phoenix in East Guangdong", which was widely respected by the chess world.

The main story is that Zeng Zhanhong is quite famous in chess, which is related to his antique business and his superior economic conditions than ordinary "chess players". Zeng Zhanhong is generous by nature and never cares about small profits. For example, just after Huang Songxuan became famous in Guangzhou, he went to Hong Kong to challenge Guo Naiming, the "Hong Kong chess king". Guo Naiming is an old timer. After knowing the destiny, he met the epigenetic Huang Songxuan. When losing two games in a row was extremely embarrassing, Zeng Zhanhong, who was watching the game on the sidelines, immediately presented the bonus generously on behalf of Guo Naiming. Usually, when Zeng Zhanhong treats poor Jianghu players, he pays the prize money when he loses the game, and never takes money when he wins the game. He often entertains the opponent with tea and rice. This is really like sending charcoal in the snow in a cloud of chess. Zeng Zhanhong also gradually established his position as the "head" of South China.

1925, Zeng Zhanhong and Zhong Zhen visited Annan together (during the French colonial period, Annan was the collective name of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos). Later, Zeng Zhanhong first returned to Guangdong and stayed in Zhong Zhen for several years. They were warmly welcomed by local chess players. According to the Vietnam Chess Book, Zeng Zhanhong was "the first person who advocated chess in Jason Wu Sports School, Vietnam, and produced many local masters". Nowadays, the Vietnamese chess world is gradually catching up with and approaching China, which is full of generosity of "the hero of the world, the monarch and the fuck", so the chess world in that country wants to remember Zeng Zhanhong, the forerunner.

Zeng Zhanhong went to North China shortly after returning to Guangzhou from Vietnam. As soon as he came here to discuss the antique business, he made friends with chess. Before going north this time, he won Zhou, Zhang, Wu Songting and Fei (Zeng Zhanhong had spared Wu and Fei Erxian), drew with Wan Qiyou, won the local masters in Fujian, and made great achievements.

1In the autumn of 928, Zeng Zhanhong arrived in Tianjin by boat from Hong Kong. During his short trip to Tientsin, all the players he met won by an overwhelming margin. In this respect, Zeng Zhanhong didn't get cocky, but made many friends, so that players from all over the world could get to know each other better and broaden their horizons, which played a role in the future "East China and South China Competition".

1In the autumn of 930, the "East China and South China Competition" in Hong Kong was an extremely eye-catching chess game. After 193 1 the first Guangdong tournament held in Guangzhou also caused a sensation in the chess world in South China. In these two wars, Zeng Zhanhong, a highly skilled chess player, held a detached attitude and eventually did not participate. But he has made great efforts in selecting South China players and preparing for the whole competition. Before these two games, Zeng Zhanhong was willing to try the sword stone and play against the famous Guangdong players. He is on a par with the records of several top players.

Zeng Zhanhong had more contacts with the later "Four Heavenly Kings of Guangdong", so when evaluating them, he was extremely pertinent. He first affirmed their advantages and then pointed out their shortcomings. For example, he commented on Feng Jingru: "Aze's strong foundation and good chess pieces are his strengths; But his layout is too monotonous, and he is obsessed with a single horse. If you encounter a master who has worked hard in the layout, you often have to be beaten first. " In addition, he used a screen saver to come to Li Qingquan, thinking that "it is impeccable to have entered the room, which is really a great achievement in chess. However, Awan (Li Qingquan) is far-reaching, so he doesn't want to be aggressive. When he meets a cautious opponent, his rebound can't come out and it's easy to make up. In Guangdong Province, Awan drew a lot, ranking last in the' Four Kings', which is why ".

Zeng Zhanhong is good at absorbing the essence of famous artists and enriching, innovating and developing them. For example, when he saw that Feng Jingru was good at "abandoning gun trucks", he felt very mysterious and curious. After several years' deliberation, Zeng Zhanhong turned out to be a game of "hitting a horse with a gun skillfully", which was published in the second issue of China Art Garden. This variation is very innovative and enlightening, and has been widely circulated and popular since then.

Zeng Zhanhong died on 1960.

Li Zijian, Zeng Zhanhong's proud disciple, and Zeng Yiqian, Zeng Zhanhong's proud son, later became the chess kings in Hong Kong. In 1950s, they competed with Yang Guanyu and Chen Songshun for many times in Guangzhou and Hongkong, which caused a sensation throughout the country.
