Putian belongs to the central coastal area of Fujian. Putian is a municipality under the jurisdiction of Fujian Province, bordering the Taiwan Province Strait in the southeast, Fuqing City in Fuzhou in the northeast, Yongchun County, Nan 'an City, Luojiang District and Quangang District in Quanzhou in the southwest, Dehua County in Quanzhou and Yongtai County in Fuzhou in the northwest.

Putian City is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, with a saddle-shaped cross section. Backed by Daiyun Mountain, facing the Taiwan Province Strait. The northwest is mostly low-middle mountains, among which Shigujie, located at the junction of Xianyou, Yongtai and Dehua counties, is the highest peak in the city. The middle part is low mountains and hills, and the plains and valleys are intertwined. The terrain is relatively flat, including Xinghua Plain, Xianyou East Plain, Xixiang Plain, South Plain and Fengjiang Pingyuan.
