Doha International Airport International Airport

In 2005, Qatar Airways began to make every effort to build Qatar's future aviation hub - the new Doha International Airport. The new Doha International Airport, scheduled to open in 2010, will have an annual passenger handling capacity of 50 million. Bechter, the engineering firm that had been responsible for the construction of the Hoover Dam, took over the task. When completed, the new Doha International Airport will have the longest airport runway in the world (2.64 miles), and the expanded hangar and entrance area means it will be the first airport in the world to serve the Airbus A380. In addition, the airport also has garden green spaces and water leisure areas, and has specially prepared a mosque and an independent royal terminal for the Emir of Qatar.

The new airport is located approximately 4 kilometers east of the existing airport. It is the first airport in the world designed specifically for the Airbus A380-800 double-decker "Big Mac". The A380 is the world's largest passenger aircraft. The new airport has a beautiful appearance and advanced systems and equipment. It covers an area of ??2,200 hectares, half of which is reclaimed from the Arabian Gulf. By 2015, the new airport will be fully completed and put into use. It is expected to cost a total of US$5.5 billion and will be completed in three phases.

The new airport also has a Royal Terminal designed specifically for VIPs (with additional parking bays), a cargo building, an aircraft maintenance garage and ancillary airport features. The terminal complex will include an airport hotel adjacent to the terminal and a 100-room hotel within the terminal to facilitate tourists and transit passengers.

The first phase of the project started in January 2005 and is planned to be operational and open in 2010. The expected annual passenger flow is 12 million. By 2015, the new Doha International Airport will be fully open and the annual passenger flow is expected to reach 50 million. The new Doha Airport will have 80 boarding gates, 25,000 square meters of retail space, waiting rooms and multi-story short-term and long-term parking areas. The new Doha International Airport will replace the current Doha International Airport. The entire project will be completed around 2015, when the airport's annual capacity can support 500,000 passengers, a cargo and mail throughput of 2 million tons, and 32 aircraft landings and takeoffs. A radio frequency identification (RFID) parking access control system will be used in the new Doha International Airport Authority, and installation of the system will be completed by the middle of the second quarter of 2013.

The new Doha International Airport will be the best representative of Qatar’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), with safe facilities and effective peak period handling. Security equipment includes a series of the world's most advanced technologies and systems, including: low-cost automatic vehicle identification (AVI) tags and high-performance channel systems. Lower cost, sticker-battery tag and reader hardware ensures that the NDIA system can read tags over a long range and forward the information to the access control system.

The radio frequency identification (RFID) parking lot access control system will be equipped with handheld devices including E1 card readers. Other advanced feature systems include RFID and/or ANPR verification for real-time alarms, a portfolio of security RFID products, automatic Parking lot control, license plate recognition and proximity cards with remote video intercom and more.
