Sanming university has Fujian Water Conservancy and Electric Power Vocational and Technical College and Sanming Vocational and Technical College.

Fujian Vocational College of Water Conservancy and Electric Power is the only full-time public higher vocational college in Fujian Province with water conservancy and electric power as its main professional feature and the coordinated development of electronic information, architecture, electromechanical, transportation and economic management. It was jointly built by Fujian Provincial Department of Education and Provincial Department of Water Resources.

It was listed as a national high-quality college, a national high-quality water conservancy vocational college and a model modern vocational college in Fujian Province, and was selected as the project construction unit of "Fujian Province High-level Vocational College and Professional Group Construction Plan". It was awarded as an excellent school in the 6th Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award, a civilized campus in Fujian Province, a safe campus in Fujian Province and an advanced unit in the May 1st Labor Award in Fujian Province.

College was founded in 1929, formerly known as "Private Putian Vocational Middle School" founded by Putian City. 1956 was taken over by Fujian provincial people's government, moved to Yong 'an and renamed as "Fujian Water Conservancy School". 198 1 was identified as the first batch of national key technical secondary schools. In 2003, it was upgraded to a higher vocational college and renamed as its current name.

In the history of vocational education for more than 90 years, the school motto is "striving for skills and advocating civilization", which has trained more than 654.38 million graduates for the country. Many students become the technical backbone or leaders of the local water conservancy and electric power industry, and enjoy the reputation of "the cradle of hydropower talents in Fujian" in the society.
