How can I live with 60,000 rupees in India? Is this a high income?
I was previously assigned to India for three years. Following the project, I also visited more than a dozen cities in India, so I have a better understanding of local prices and living conditions in India.
How can one live in India with an income of 60,000 rupees a month? It depends on the city, really. In cities like Hyderabad, Dehradun, Jaipur, and Bhopal, 60,000 rupees is enough to live a good life.
If you are in cities like Chennai, Delhi, and Kolkata, you can basically live a standard middle-class life.
But if you are unfortunate enough to live in Bangalore, Mumbai, or New Delhi, you are actually just a white-collar worker with a relatively high salary. Basically equivalent to the level of 20,000 to 30,000 in Shanghai or Shenzhen.
India is a very poor country as a whole, and the legendary 1 billion livestock and 100 million people are not a myth. They have 800 million people who basically earn less than $2 a day. The five-star hotel I stayed in was magnificent, but as soon as I stepped out of the back door, I could step on sewage. Many people are lying or sleeping on the side of the road, dressed in rags. This is the real India. Whenever this happens, I especially want to slap Yin Chui in the face.
Take Jaipur, where I stayed, as an example. This is the capital of the northwest state of Chalistan that borders Pakistan. This city is extremely ruined, but prices are also very cheap. Let’s talk about food first. Everything below has been converted into RMB.
Shiquandabu popcorn on the roadside costs one yuan for a large bag.
Common fried pancakes and fried dumplings cost one yuan. The hollow meatballs cost 6 cents each, and you can fill them with juice for free. Those huge and unpalatable fried glutinous rice balls cost three yuan for two.
Various fruit juices generally cost about 1 to 2 yuan, and the slightly more expensive mango juice costs 2 to 3 yuan. This is pure juice, not adulterated at all.
Because I don’t dare to eat out much, I eat mostly in my own hotel or in restaurants in wealthy areas. Basically, a buffet in a five-star hotel costs about 50 to 70 yuan per person. A normal meal only costs about 30 to 50 yuan, which is quite good. in the country, everything must meet the standard of hundreds.
The wet market sells a variety of vegetables, but there are not many varieties. They are basically onions, beans, peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, and carrots. It seems that he is thin and small, and does not use pesticides and fertilizers very much. The price is not high, basically around a few cents to two yuan per pound. If it's a street stall, it's cheaper.
The fruits are also local lychees, guavas, and water chestnuts (you read that right, they are eaten as fruits), and they cost almost one or two yuan per pound. Flower strings like this cost 3 to 10 yuan per string. Let’s talk about some other things.
The small commodity market is basically monopolized by Chinese products. Whether it is slippers, small cups, small mirrors and other miscellaneous items, they are a bit more expensive than in China. The price increase is about 50 yuan.
Because we buy relatively good clothes, the prices are similar to those in China. A T-shirt costs fifty or sixty. Suits and jeans cost hundreds or even thousands. But according to locals, you can go to that kind of flea market or general clothing wholesale market for as low as a few yuan a piece.
All electronic products are more expensive than in China. Not only mobile phones, but also small appliances and large items. From here we can see how important a country's industrial base is. So in a city like Jaipur, with 60,000 rupees a month, you can basically live a very happy life. But after 50 years of construction surpassing that of Shanghai and Mumbai, the first city in the universe, it will be another world.
To put it simply, multiply the prices in Jaipur by 5 times. The most exaggerated thing is that several of our colleagues went to a restaurant that looked about the same and had a meal, which cost nearly 200 per person. This consumption level is almost the same as Kunshan where I am now.
Except for onions, carrots, eggplants, and cabbage, you can basically afford none of the vegetables in Mumbai. For example, a pack of vegetables costs basically 20 yuan, a piece of broccoli costs 15 yuan, and three apricots cost 10 yuan... In the local area, ordinary people can afford bananas and mangoes.
As for meat, let alone that.
If you want to ensure quality, you can only go to large supermarkets if you can't eat it to death. 300 grams of chicken costs about 40 yuan, 12 eggs cost about 30 yuan, and even a pound of bread costs nearly 15 yuan.
So we try not to eat out in Mumbai. Did you know? Even buying 1.5 liters of water costs almost 10 yuan. In China, water like Nongfu Spring Yibao, which costs 2 yuan, costs 3.5 yuan locally. Of course, there are cheap places in Mumbai, mainly consumed by locals, but the prices are really much higher than in other cities.
So if you make money in China and get Indian flowers, it will definitely be a very cool thing. This magical country is by no means as beautiful as those Yinchui said.
In a five-star hotel you think you are in heaven, but outside the five-star hotel it is hell. There is basically no drainage system in the entire city, and the sanitary conditions are extremely poor. There is sewage, garbage and filth everywhere, and cows walking around.
Until now, India still has ubiquitous caste discrimination, extremely low status of women, and extremely corrupt police... People's lives are simply miserable, but they are also indifferent, and many cities are not low-income people. Regarding domestic prices... this is a strange country, a country with no future. We have reached such a state of poverty, but no one has the guts to call the prince, general, Xiang Ning!
Under such circumstances, they still cannot clearly see their own status. They are restless and try to compete with China. So I don’t think down of this country from the bottom of my heart. In this state, it will be impossible for it to catch up with China in another 500 years.
