Kunming has a long history and splendid culture. It is one of the first 24 national historical and cultural cities announced by the State Council. It has a history of more than 2,200 years of city construction, and the Dianchi Lake area has a history of 3,000 years of civilization. About 30,000 years ago, humans lived in the Dianchi Lake area.

Tens of thousands of years ago, the ancestors of the Kunming people lived a primitive life in this area, eating raw materials, drinking blood, and living in caves in the wilderness. About 4,000 to 7,000 years ago, there were already settled agricultural people in the Dianchi Lake area, engaged in primitive agriculture of "slash and burn", hunting, raising livestock and poultry and other business activities, and they were already capable of spinning and weaving.

Kaiyuan

Kaiyuan is located in the southern part of the Yunnan Plateau, bordering the Dian-Kang axis to the west, the edge of the Guizhou-Guangxi platform to the east, and between the two major faults of the Honghe River and the Nanpanjiang River. Affected by geological tectonic movements, complex terrains such as folds, faults, rift basins, alternating lava mountains, and Zhongshan Canyons formed by the Nanpan River and its tributaries have been formed.

It is a medium shallow cut Zhongshan mountain plateau landform. The mountains run north-south, high in the southeast and low in the northwest, with undulating terrain. The highest point is 2775.6 meters above sea level and the lowest altitude is 950 meters. The relative height difference is 1825.6 meters, and the three-dimensional terrain features are outstanding. There are five types of landforms throughout the land: rift basins, impact fan groups, low mountains and hills, mid-mountain canyons, and lava mountainous areas.
