Brief introduction of Taiyuan city

Taiyuan is the capital of Shanxi Province, located in the middle of the province, at the northern end of Taiyuan Basin, where the north-south railway line meets Puhe and Shitai. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Shanxi Province and one of the major heavy industry cities in China. The city has jurisdiction over three suburban counties, namely Qingxu, Yangqu and Loufan, and Gujiao. Taiyuan has a long history, and its geographical location is surrounded by mountains and waters. It has been a military and political center since ancient times. Historically, it was called Jinyang, Jizhou, Bingzhou, Taiyuan County and Taiyuan Prefecture, and 1927 changed to the city. The name of Jinyang began in the Spring and Autumn Period, and the site is in Gucheng Camp in the north of Jinyuan Town. Taiyuan ancient city was built in Song Taizong. 1892, the Qing government established the embryonic form of modern industry in Taiyuan.

Geographical landform

Taiyuan is surrounded by mountains in the east, west and north, with valley plains in the middle and south. The whole terrain is dustpan-shaped. The eastern mountainous area, commonly known as Dongshan, is a continuation of Taihang Mountain, with an altitude of 1 0,000m to 1 0,500m, and the main peak of Hanshan 1 0,596,5438+0m. The western mountainous area is the Shandong wing of Lvliang, with an altitude of 1600 meters. The main peak, Genting Mountain, is 2659 meters above sea level, which is the highest peak in this area. Zhoushan is in the north. At an altitude of1800m, it is the watershed of the Fenhe Hutuo River and the boundary mountain between Ding Xin and Taiyuan Basin. In the meantime, Shilingguan and Tianmen Pass, known as the "North Gate Lock Keys", were battlegrounds for ancient military strategists. Between the east and west mountains is Taiyuan Basin, which is about 800 meters above sea level, with flat terrain, fertile soil, convenient irrigation and developed agriculture.

Fenhe River, the largest river in Shanxi, enters from Jingle and flows through Taiyuan City from west to east, south of Shanglan Village. In addition, there are tributaries Xiao River, Tunlan River, Dachuan River, Liulin River, Hexi River and Yangxing River. There are abundant springs in the foothills, especially Jinci and Lancun. There are six lakes in China, and Jinyang Lake is the most. The ditches on both sides of Fenhe River are vertical and horizontal, which brings great convenience to industrial and agricultural water use.

The annual average temperature is 9.5℃, 1 month-6.4℃, and July-23.5℃. The frost period is from mid-October of/kloc-0 to mid-April of the following year, and the frost-free period is from 140 to 190 days, with an annual rainfall of 500mm.

Taiyuan is rich in mineral resources, with coal as the most, with a reserve of more than 25 billion tons, followed by a large number of gypsum, limestone, refractory clay, iron ore and a small amount of manganese, copper, dolomite and quartz sand. Taiyuan's industry has developed rapidly, and now it has become a heavy industrial city with coal, metallurgy, machinery and chemical industry as its four pillars and 14 categories of industries. Taiyuan Iron and Steel Company has become a new special steel production base in China. In addition, light industry is also very developed, mainly including textiles, paper, leather, ceramics and so on.

The territory is the intersection of the railway with Puhe and Shitai. Expressway radiates mesh cloth, and the traffic is very convenient. It is the transportation hub of the whole province. The main trunk highways are Taiyuan to Du Jun, Taiyuan Tongdakou, Taiyuan Tongmao Jindu, Taiyuan Tongjiuguan, Taiyuan Xia Tong Bai Quan, Taiyuan Tongwenjiazhuang and Taiyuan Tongjingle. There are criss-crossing bus and tram lines in the city, and the traffic is very convenient.
