The origin of the name of Hailing Island in Poly Hailing Island

Hailing Island is located in Yangjiang City, Guangdong Province. It is known as "Beidaihe in the South" and "Hawaii in the East" and is known as a piece of uncarved jade. Hailing Island has been rated as one of the "Top Ten Most Beautiful Islands in China" by "China National Geography" magazine for three consecutive years from 2005 to 2007. The island has convenient transportation. It only takes 2 hours to reach Guangzhou via the Guangzhan-Zhan Expressway and 1.5 hours to Zhuhai via the Coastal Expressway. It is a maritime transfer station in western Guangdong, eastern Guangdong and central Guangdong.

As for the origin of the place name Hailing Island, some people say that it is because there is a tomb of Taifu Zhang on this island, which is a "sea tomb", so it is called Hailing Island. In fact, this is meaningless. When Guyangjiang still belonged to Songkang County (around 432 AD), there was the Hailing Order (county). That is to say, more than 800 years before the tomb of Taifu Zhang, the place name "Hailing" already existed.

So, how did this name come about? Originally, Hailing Island was called Luodao (or Luozhou, Luozhou) because its topography really resembled a horizontal conch shell. Later, with the geographical changes, Hailing gradually floated up from the sea and turned into a boundless "hill in the sea" worthy of the name. This is called Hailing. There are books as evidence: "Hailing's old name was Luozhou, also known as Luodao. The tallest one is Caowang Mountain. There are rocks on the mountain that cannot be broken by human power, but oyster shells are stuck on." It can be seen that the top of Caowang Mountain was still there. The sea has gradually changed from a "small conch" to a "big sea".
