Is it illegal for non-couples to stay in hotels?

It is illegal for non-couples to stay in hotels, which may be suspected of bigamy or destruction of military marriage. The crime of bigamy stipulates that anyone who commits bigamy with a spouse, or marries someone knowing that they have a spouse, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than two years or criminal detention. The provision of the crime of breaking military marriage is that anyone who knowingly cohabites or marries a soldier shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years or criminal detention.

The crime of bigamy refers to the crime that the actor violates the relevant provisions of China's criminal law and marries another person with a legal spouse or knowingly marries another person with a spouse.

Article 258 of the Criminal Code of People's Republic of China (PRC).

The crime of bigamy involves bigamy of a spouse, or marrying someone who knows that they have a spouse, and shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than two years or criminal detention.

Article 259

Whoever cohabites or marries with an active serviceman knowing that he is the spouse of the active serviceman commits the crime of breaking the military marriage and is sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years or criminal detention.

Whoever coerces and rapes the wife of an active serviceman by taking advantage of his power and relationship shall be convicted and punished in accordance with the provisions of Article 236 of this Law.
