Haikou is a warm city and the capital of Hainan Island. It has unique tourism nature and environment. There is a lot of delicious food here, especially the variety of seafood is impressive. Here, I would like to share with you the super detailed route and strategy for self-driving tour in Haikou.

How to get to Haikou by private car

1. Where to take the ferry? Things to note when crossing the sea by self-driving ferry. You need to go to Xuwen County, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. There are three wharfs where you can ferry across the sea. They are as follows:

Hai'an Port

Located in Hai'an Town, southeast of Xuwen County, it is the oldest port and is commonly known as Haian Old Port. It is about 7 or 8 kilometers away from Xuwen County. The ticket waiting room has a general environment and is covered by mobile WIFI.

Haian New Port

Located in Haian Town, southeast of Xuwen County, it is a newly built port in 2009. Commonly known as Hai'an New Port, it is located about 2km west of Hai'an Port and close to the urban area of ??Xuwen County, about 5km to 6km. The ticket waiting room has a better and more comfortable environment and is covered by mobile WIFI.

Haian Port Haian New Port is a roll-on/roll-off terminal with many flights and time options. There are also evening flights, which usually leave when the boat is full.

Beigang of Guangdong-Hai Railway

It is located in Wuli Township in the southwest of Xuwen County, about 20 kilometers away from Xuwen County and 25 kilometers away from Xuwen Railway Station. There are currently no buses or coaches arriving. The ticket waiting room is outdated and covered by mobile WIFI. This port is a train and ferry terminal, so the departure time will overlap with the train time. The journey time is 1 hour. The ship is large and has large vehicle storage space.

2. Cross-sea fee The price of a small car is about 450 yuan, including the cost of a driver, and 42 yuan for other passengers.

It is recommended to avoid Golden Week and major holidays, especially around the Spring Festival. You may have to wait more than 24 hours to cross the sea by boat. You must pay more attention to the information released by the terminal.

At all terminals, you can only buy tickets for the same day at the ticket window. At present, the consultation hotlines at each terminal only provide ticket booking and ticket purchase at the window, and do not realize real online or telephone payment for tickets. Sea transportation takes about 0.5-2 hours, disembarking from Hong Kong takes about 0.5 hours, sailing by sea takes about 1.5 hours, and crossing the sea takes about 2 or 3 hours.

3. There are three terminals from Haikou Pier to Haikou destination:

Haikou South Port, Haikou New Sea Port, and Haikou Port. Among them, Haikou Nangang and Xinhai Port are relatively close, near Haikou Railway Station, and it takes about 30 minutes to drive to the city. Haikou Port, formerly Xiuying Port, is located in the urban area and has convenient transportation.

How to rent a car and drive in Haikou

If you don’t want to drive a long distance from the mainland, you want to save yourself the trouble of changing places. The simplest way is to rent a car after arriving in Haikou, which can not only enjoy the fun of self-driving, but also reduce the hardship of long-distance travel. What are the self-driving routes from Haikou?

After arriving in Haikou, take a short rest and start driving around the island. Hainan Island has three expressways running through the entire island, namely the east line, the middle line, and the west line, with the destination being Sanya. Moreover, there are no tolls on the entire Hainan Island Expressway, so you can travel all the way south on the expressway.

(1) Eastern Expressway: a traditional conventional route, the earliest and most mature tourist route developed in Hainan. Along the way there are Qionghai, Boao, Wanning and Lingshui. Along the way there are the famous Boao Forum for Asia, Xinglong Botanical Garden, Monkey Island, Boundary Island, Wuzhizhou, Shimei Bay, Yalong Bay, etc. The whole journey from Haikou to Sanya takes about 3.5 hours.

(2) Central Expressway: Currently, the Central Expressway is only built to Qiongzhong. It takes about 2 hours from Haikou to Qiongzhong Expressway, and about 3 hours from Qiongzhong to Sanya by national highway. The middle line does not face the sea and is mainly inhabited by the unknown Li and Miao ethnic minorities of Hainan Island. Qiongzhong is rich in green orange and Shanlan wine.

Wuzhishan and Baoting Qixianling are also along the central line. Qixianling is famous for its hot springs and there are many hot spring resort hotels. Soaking in hot springs and climbing Qixianling are popular oxygen health trips recently. Wuzhishan is the highest mountain in Hainan Island.

The mother river of the original Li people is full of water and runs through the entire scenic spot. Wuzhishan rafting is also quite thrilling, with a maximum drop of 9 meters. It is worth a try.

Haikou: Nanyang-style arcade buildings were mostly built by overseas Chinese in Nanyang in the last century. The unique architectural style inherits the historical stories of the old Haikou people. Crater Park

The official name of Crater Park is Leiqionghaikou Volcanic Group World Geopark, a 4A-level scenic spot. Located in Shishan Town, Haikou, about 15 kilometers away from the urban area, it is a dormant volcano group about 10,000 years ago. The landform is dominated by volcanic rocks and volcanic landforms. After climbing to the top of the mountain, you can see the remains of the volcanic eruption from the steps down to the bottom. From the top of the mountain, you can have a panoramic view of Haikou City.

The crater has rich vegetation, good air, low mountains, and low physical requirements. You can have dinner at the crater restaurant at the entrance of the scenic spot. Shishan tofu and Shishan goat are the specialties here.

The stone sheep in the crater have no smell, and the skin is tender and the bones are smooth, which is different from the mutton in Inner Mongolia and other places. Moreover, the crater is surrounded by special volcanic rocks formed after volcanic eruptions and solidification. Volcanic black beans grow on these rocks and soil, and it is difficult for them to take root. Shishan black bean tofu is also famous in Haikou. Feng Xiaogang Film Commune

Feng Xiaogang Film Commune Xiaogang Film Commune is located in Mission Hills Resort, about half an hour's drive from the city. Mainly based on Feng's famous movie scenes, it is called creating an ideal utopia related to the movie.

The greenery spreads on the blue sea, which is very pleasant. The walking path is built in the mangroves and leads to the endless sea. You can see dead branches, fallen leaves, soil, water and cute crabs everywhere on the plank road. The forest is a different experience. The sea breeze blows and the smell of the sea is within reach. You can also take a boat to the Wild Pineapple Island.

Half of the entire island is artificially planted mangroves and half is wild pineapple trees.
