Introduction to attractions

1. Baoguo Temple: Built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, it is a temple entering the mountain gate and the starting point for most tourists to visit the Mount Emei Scenic Area. The "Baoguo Temple" plaque on the temple gate was written by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. Baoguo Temple was originally called Huizong Hall, but was renamed during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. The main hall includes Maitreya Hall, Daxiong Hall, Seven Buddhas Hall and Samantabhadra Hall, etc. They are built against the mountain, with each level higher than the other.

2. Wannian Temple: The beamless hall in the temple is all made of brick and wood structure. It was built by Emperor Wanli to celebrate his mother’s birthday. The "Xingyuan Tower" in the temple enshrines the Three Treasures: Buddha's Tooth, Bay Leaf Sutra and Wanli Golden Seal. Most of the buildings in today's Wannian Temple were rebuilt in 1953. The Wuliang Hall was built in the 28th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty. There are twenty-four Buddhist niches on the lower part of the inner wall of the temple, and each niche contains an iron-cast Buddha statue.

3. Fuhu Temple: Built in the Tang Dynasty, the temple is hidden deep in the mountains and surrounded by towering trees. Today it is a quiet nunnery. There are not many tourists coming to Fuhu Temple. The environment is very quiet, giving people a sense of being away from the world. The temple also provides food and accommodation.
