New functions of smart mirror

Japanese technology company Seraku found that real estate companies and hotels are interested in their networked bathroom mirrors. This kind of mirror can be used as a "one-stop" display screen for reading news, checking network traffic, leaving notes for family members and tracking household water consumption. Users can browse different functions as long as they approach different parts of the mirror with their hands. This will prevent your fingers from touching the mirror and staining it.

The washbasin contains a scale placed underground, which can be used to measure people's weight and send the data to the display screen of the mirror. Seraku puts the computer monitor behind a mirror, and uses the computer processor combined with Google Android application to process all kinds of data and information.

Another new type of mirror may be suitable for clothing retail stores. Tokyo design company Non-Grid has installed more than 12 "interactive mirrors" in Japan and London. These mirrors are not real mirrors, but ultra-thin display screens with high-definition cameras. If a person stands in front of the camera, his image will be displayed on the display screen, just like looking in a mirror.

In the Desai store in Ginza, Tokyo, consumers can even "virtually try on" a certain brand of jeans. When the customer stands in front of the interactive mirror, it will take pictures of the front, back and side of the customer. When customers choose various brands of jeans, the display screen will show what customers will look like after wearing this brand of jeans. If they like the way it looks on the screen, they can send photos of jeans to their emails or post them on Facebook and Twitter.

Hiroshi Koike, CEO of non-grid, said that interactive mirrors can also be used as photo kiosks in stores, thus adding a little fun to consumers' shopping experience. "Until now, the shopping experience of consumers visiting stores has not changed much." Dr. Koike said, "With this digital technology, you can add entertainment function to the mirror."
