Explanation of terms of chair No.14 in Sanna

Sanna chair 14 is the most famous chair produced by Thonet Chair Company. Also known as "pub chair", it was designed by Michael Thonet and introduced to the market in 1859, becoming the first mass-produced furniture in the world.

The chair No.14 in Sanna is made of bent wood, and the design took several years to perfect. Because of its reasonable price and simple design, it has become one of the best-selling chairs in history. Between 1859 and 193, about 5 million chairs No.14 were sold, and then millions more were sold.

The chair No.14 in Sanna is made of six pieces of wood bent by steam, ten screws and two nuts. Wooden parts are made by heating beech slats to 1°C and pressing them into a curved cast iron mold. Then dry at about 7°C for 2 hours. These chairs can be mass-produced by unskilled workers and disassembled during transportation to save space.

This design is a response to the demand for cafe-style chairs. Seats are usually made of rattan or palm, because the small holes in the seat will let the spilled liquid flow down from the chair.
