Meili Snow Mountain Meili Snow Mountain, located 10 kilometers northeast of Deqin County, is the boundary mountain between Yunnan and Tibet. The famous Rizhao Jinshan scenery attracts countless backpackers. There are thirteen peaks in Meili Snow Mountain, and the main peak, Kawagebo, is the highest peak in Yunnan. It is the patron saint of the Kagyupa, a branch of the Maning sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

The mountain peak is like a majestic and towering pyramid, and the hidden clouds and mist cast a mysterious veil on the snow-capped mountains. Kawagebo, known as the God of Snow Mountains, enjoys a world-wide reputation as one of the eight sacred mountains in Tibetan areas. So far, no one has reached the summit. Meili Snow Mountain is a pilgrimage site for Tibetan Buddhism and ranks first among the eight sacred mountains in Tibetan areas. Every year in late autumn and early winter, a large number of believers from Tibet, Qinghai, Sichuan and Gansu come all the way to worship. The pious and difficult scenes are breathtaking. Now the highway has been built to Meili, Mingshui, Sinong and other Tibetan villages under the Prince Snow Mountain. It takes about two hours from Deqin County.

The majestic beauty of climbing Kawagebo and its lofty and sacred status in religion have attracted countless Chinese and foreign tourists and climbers. However, all large-scale mountaineering activities from the early 20th century to the present have ended in failure. Therefore, Meili Snow Mountain is still a virgin peak. So far, Meili Snow Mountain has been climbed nine times in the past 15 years. Among them, there were 4 joint climbs between China and Japan, 1 solo climb by Japan, and 4 climbs by the United States.

Since 1996, the country has banned climbing Meili Snow Mountain. Meili Snow Mountain Hiking Area is a paradise for hiking enthusiasts. There are several hiking routes: from Meili to Bingzhongluo, Nujiang, etc. Mountain tour: Generally speaking, mountain tour is not very strenuous and suitable for ordinary travelers; however, in rainy or snowy weather, the road will be very muddy and winding. The route is - White Brick Well Pagoda - Feilai Temple - Lancang River - Yongzong Village - Xidang Hot Spring - Nanzong Pass - Yubengshang Village - Yubengxia Village - Shenpu, and then return the same way. The whole journey takes about 4-5 days to walk. Going outside the mountain: The route to the outside of the mountain is longer and more difficult.

It takes a certain amount of physical strength to circle the Meili Snow Mountain, enter Tibet, and then return to Yunnan. It usually takes 13 days to transfer outside the mountains, during which time you need to live in an uninhabited area. Suitable for experienced travelers with complete outdoor equipment. From Nujiang Meili to Bingzhongluo: There are two routes. First, take a bus from Deqin County to Yunling Yongzhi. Hire a horse in Yongzhi, walk through the rope barrel, and hike over the Peacock Pass, through the new trees, to Di Malo. There will be a road in the future, and the whole journey will take two days.

Second, take a car from Deqin County to Cizhong, hire horses in Cizhong, and pass through Baihanluo to Dimaluo. On the way, we have to climb a pass at an altitude of 5,000 meters. It takes two days to walk and only takes 1.5 hours to drive from Dimaluo to Bingzhongluo. On the contrary, you can also enter the Meili area from the Nujiang area through this route, which has beautiful scenery and many people hiking.

Special tips: 1. You don’t need a map to climb the mountain inside, but you can get a map in Shangri-La County for climbing the mountain outside. 2. The roads are all dirt roads, and sometimes there will be landslides from July to August, and the mountain is closed from January to March. 3. If you have poor physical strength, renting a horse is a good choice.
