How to keep flower arrangement fresh and prolong flowering period

Spring blossoms and a hundred flowers blossom. At this time, if a vase is placed in the room and a bunch of flowers are inserted, the whole room can be full of vitality and spring breath. Unfortunately, in a few days, the flowers in the bottle will gradually wither and lose their bright colors. What should we do? Can we prolong the fresh-keeping time of flowers in bottles as much as possible?

There are two reasons why the flowers in the bottle are easy to wither: on the one hand, the water can't reach the branches smoothly because of the blockage of the catheter mouth, and on the other hand, the flowers wither prematurely because of the lack of nutrient supply after leaving the mother and soil.

Catheter mouth blockage often occurs in cutting wounds. First of all, because the flowers are cut from the mother, the wound will secrete some juice, which is easy to block the catheter mouth; Secondly, due to the action of bacteria in the water, the incision of the flower branch is infected and rotted. When the withered flower branches are taken out, we can often see the decay at the lower cut of the flower branches.

Insufficient nutrition supply is also an important reason for the premature withering of flowers. Flowers grow on the mother, on the one hand, they can absorb the mineral elements necessary for plant growth through the soil, on the other hand, they can fully transport the organic nutrients made by the mother to the flowering part through photosynthesis. Now, without the mother and soil, flowers will naturally wither faster because of the lack of the above conditions. In addition, botanical research also tells people that the withering of flowers is often related to the changes of ethylene and cytokinin. Many flowers release a lot of ethylene a few days after flowering, but the content of cytokinin is greatly reduced. Ethylene can accelerate the decline and withering process of flowers, and cytokinin can prolong the opening time of flowers.

Knowing the above reasons, we might as well take the following measures to extend the fresh-keeping time of flowers in bottles:

1. Pruning of flower branches should be carried out in the evening or early morning when there is more water in the air, so as to avoid the strong transpiration of plant leaves under strong light and cause plant withering. The incision should be inclined to expand the water absorption area. The cut should be disinfected. Burning with low fire first, then soaking in potassium permanganate solution for 1~2 minutes, and finally washing with clear water can prevent bacterial parasitism and juice outflow and promote wound tissue healing.

The water in the vase should be changed frequently, preferably river water and well water, and the tap water should be allowed to stand for a while before use.

3. Always check the lower end of the flower branch. Once the incision is found to be rotten, it should be cut off immediately and the water in the bottle should be replaced. A small amount of bactericidal substances such as silver nitrate and ammonium acetate can be added to the water for sterilization, or the incision can be cut into four parts to increase the water absorption area.

4. In order to prolong the blooming time of flowers, some nutrients, such as sugar, can be added to the water to supplement the energy consumed by flowers, and some chemicals, such as silver thiosulfate, can be added to the water to inhibit the ethylene effect. At the same time, care should be taken not to place fruits and vegetables around flowers to reduce the ethylene content in the air, and some synthetic benzyl adenine with cytokinin function can be added to the water.

5. Aspirin is effective in prolonging flowering period, closing leaf holes and reducing water evaporation in flower arrangement. Just try it.

As long as the above points are achieved, it is entirely possible to extend the opening time of the flowers in the bottle.
