The smell of wood itself won't go down for a year, as long as it's not allergic to it, that's nothing. Wood will undergo some anti-corrosion, modification and bleaching treatment, and naturally some chemicals will be used. Formaldehyde is rarely used to treat it now. Taste is not the only criterion to distinguish whether it is harmful to health. Smell is not necessarily toxic, tasteless is not necessarily environmentally friendly.
