Wang Yuling: After Zhang Lingfu died, she took her son to work around to make a living. When she was desperate, she committed suicide by taking medicine.

This battle was a great victory of our army in the war of liberation, and it was also a victory to reverse Gan Kun. On the day of the end of the campaign, Zhang Lingfu, the commander of the 74th division, was also killed-but this is not exciting news, but it can be called regret. Premier Zhou later regretted that Zhang Lingfu should be won over before the war began.

Senior leaders of both parties deeply regret the death of Zhang Lingfu, but no one can compare with Zhang Lingfu's wife Wang Yuling in terms of pain. Wang Yuling, who was only 19 years old, just gave birth to our son less than 2 days ago, and it is impossible for her beloved husband to return to her.

It's only been two years since they got married. Two years is enough for her to love this man who is twenty-five years older than herself, and these two years have also made her remember it for life.

Zhang Lingfu had a bad marriage. Before Wang Yuling, he had had three unhappy marriages. The woman in the first marriage was a child bride arranged for him by his parents in his hometown. Zhang Lingfu himself was not satisfied with this arrangement, because he officially married a Mrs. Wu after joining the army, and the two married in Guangyuan, Sichuan in 1933.

There was a happy time after marriage, but due to a political incident, Zhang Lingfu shot his wife in his own living room in a rage.

At that time, Zhang Lingfu was already a teacher, and the "teacher killed his wife" shocked the Kuomintang and the public from all walks of life. Mrs. Wu's parents were particularly angry and handed the form paper to Xi' an; Song Meiling also told Chiang Kai-shek that "the prince is guilty of breaking the law with the common people".

Zhang Lingfu was sentenced to 1 years' imprisonment in Nanjing for killing his wife, but he was released and returned to his hometown in Xi 'an after a year and a half.

During his tenure as the head of the 74th Division, he married another Mrs. Gao and gave birth to two men and one woman. This marriage is not a happy life. The two divorced on the eve of the full-scale outbreak of War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, and the three children died one after another.

During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression period, Zhang Lingfu had no intention of getting married, so he remained single until War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression ended in the second half of 1945. Zhang Lingfu, who was in his thirties, needed a warm family after the war. At this time, Wang Yuling appeared in front of him.

Wang Yuling was born in Changsha in 1928 in a noble family known as "Wang Million". She was the only daughter in the family and was regarded as the apple of her parents' eye.

Unfortunately, her father died when she was five years old. Little Wang Yuling began to learn to be independent. At the age of 14, she became a director and managed the rent of more than a dozen shops in her family. The 14-year-old girl managed these things well, but she was confident and frank without being contaminated with copper odor.

During the Anti-Japanese War, Wang Yuling moved from Changsha to Yuanling to study, where she met a director's wife under Zhang Lingfu. The more this lady looks at it, the more she thinks that she and Zhang Lingfu are a good match, and she has been thinking about how to fix them up. The first effort was that before the end of the Anti-Japanese War, the director's wife invited her to her home and showed her Zhang Lingfu's photos and calligraphy.

Zhang Lingfu has a height of 1.8 meters, and he is also handsome in spirit. His imitation of Yu Youren's handwriting is almost genuine. But Wang Yuling, who was only sixteen years old at that time, didn't take it to heart after reading these.

After the Anti-Japanese War, Zhang Lingfu went to Changsha specially to meet Wang Yuling.

When Zhang Lingfu first met Wang Yuling, she was washing her hair with her classmates in the barber shop. Zhang Lingfu, who was tall and handsome, came in and was very eye-catching, but Wang Yuling noticed that he had been staring at her since this man entered the shop. Subconsciously, she felt that this was a lothario, so she turned around and glared at him bitterly.

After marriage, Zhang Lingfu joked that if Wang Yuling had turned around and smiled, he might not have married her.

After this meeting, Zhang Lingfu identified Wang Yuling. He invited Wang Yuling's aunt and the young lady at home to have dinner, and all the people he knew who were related to the Wangs started up and started his fierce wife-chasing offensive.

Although Zhang Lingfu is twenty-five years older than Wang Yuling, he is still a handsome boy, high flyers of Peking University History Department and a famous Confucian general in the Kuomintang army. After getting along for a period of time, Wang Yuling himself was tempted.

But this marriage was strongly opposed by Wang Yuling's mother. She thinks that the age gap of twenty-five between them is too big, and Zhang Lingfu's three unhappy marriages, especially the past of "killing his wife", have made a mother tremble with fear.

In addition, although Zhang Lingfu is a hero of the Anti-Japanese War, as the saying goes, "a general dies in hundreds of battles", marrying Zhang Lingfu means that her daughter is much more likely to be a widow in the future than ordinary people.

Wang Yuling is a girl with strong opinions. She agreed to Zhang Lingfu's proposal against her mother's wishes. Mother had no choice but to put forward a very strict condition, requiring that the chairman of the provincial government should make an introduction.

this requirement is not difficult to meet for a senior KMT official like Zhang Lingfu. Soon, Cheng Qian, Chairman of the Kuomintang Hunan Provincial Government, entered the Wang Family Courtyard and became a witness to the marriage of Zhang Lingfu and Wang Yuling.

In the autumn of 1945, Zhang Lingfu and Wang Yuling held a grand wedding in Shanghai Golden Gate Hotel. Just then, Chiang Kai-shek also announced that Zhang Lingfu would succeed the commander of the 74th Army and the Nanjing garrison commander, which was a double happiness.

Double happiness means double busyness, because Zhang Lingfu has a lot of official duties, and their wedding date has been delayed again and again. Zhang Lingfu is always very sorry for this. The wedding date was finally decided after several delays, but when the newlyweds arrived, it was already the eve of the wedding.

before the wedding, there was another small mistake-the clothes didn't fit. Zhang Lingfu's height of 1.8 meters is tall even now. At that time, the tailor didn't ask in detail, and the suit made on the spot was a lot shorter.

It's too late to make on-site changes. Zhang Lingfu has to borrow clothes from Mrs. Luo's relatives to make her own wedding dress. Fortunately, Wang Yuling's wedding dress is suitable, and people are gorgeous and unparalleled. All the guests present said that she is the most beautiful bride in Shanghai.

Zhang Lingfu, who was busy with official business, hurried back to Nanjing on the day of the wedding. His wife Wang Yuling accompanied him without complaint and spent her wedding night on the train. After marriage, their lives can be described as inseparable, and they are very compatible in personality and hobbies.

Zhang Lingfu loves his little wife very much. Although Wang Yuling is young, she is dignified and steady, and she thinks everything carefully. For example, when she visited her husband at Zhang Lingfu's residence, she always grasped the time and paid attention to some confidential places to prevent others from gossiping.

On the eve of the Battle of Menglianggu, Wang Yuling gave birth to her and Zhang Lingfu's only son, Zhang Daoyu.

Zhang Lingfu, who was actively preparing for the battle, was very happy after hearing the news, and immediately sent a telegram to his wife to express his joy. But in the telegram, he also said helplessly: "I am really happy and worried now." Naturally, I am happy that I have children with my beloved wife, but I am worried about the current war.

Zhang Lingfu is known as the "ever-victorious general" within the Kuomintang, which also made him somewhat arrogant in the Battle of Meng Lianggu. The so-called pride goes before a fall. Zhang Lingfu suffered a defeat in Meng Lianggu, but he paid the price of his life for it.

Of course, the defeat of the campaign can't be attributed to Zhang Lingfu alone. When he persisted in Meng Lianggu for a long time, the infighting within the Kuomintang made reinforcements who could have arrived on time just wander around, so that a generation of famous soldiers hated the civil war.

Before Zhang Lingfu died, he had a premonition that the battle would be defeated. In desperation, he wrote a suicide note and gave it to his entourage, and especially told him: "If you are good to me, you must be good to my wife!"

A few months later, Yang Zhanchun, the captured entourage staff, gave this suicide note and Zhang Lingfu's few relics to Wang Yuling. The last sentence reads: "My wife, Yuling, is forever."

The news of Zhang Lingfu's death was blocked from Wang Yuling for some time. At that time, she was still thinking that her husband could go home to see himself and his son as soon as possible. Just over a month ago, eight months pregnant, she deliberately bumped for five or six hours to go to Zhang Lingfu's residence. They both lay in bed and chatted for a while. When she left, Zhang Lingfu also watched her car go away.

It was not until the suicide note was handed to her that she had to believe the fact that her husband really couldn't come back.

Zhang Lingfu died in battle. Some people say that he was killed, while others say that he committed suicide. In this regard, Wang Yuling saw it thoroughly, and she summarized it as "becoming a martyr of the Kuomintang".

indeed, all the soldiers who died in the war of liberation are the victims of this party that has been defeated.

As the widow of the martyr, Wang Yuling didn't get any special pension and treatment at that time-although she deserved it.

However, because the Kuomintang itself has taken care of its own affairs, the financial crisis in the Kuomintang-controlled areas was even more serious in the later period, and the meagre relief rations that could not be distributed on time were totally insufficient to feed Wang Yuling's family of three. She simply went out to work by herself, earning the rations for her mother and young son by virtue of her knowledge.

In the most difficult time, Wang Yuling couldn't help drinking a bottle of DDT and committed suicide. But she was young, was discovered in time, and was quickly sent to the hospital for rescue. At that time, her consciousness was very clear, but her whole body could not move. Even the hair on her face blown by the breeze, she couldn't brush it away.

While lying quietly in bed, Wang Yuling was suddenly aroused with anger. He felt that he could not sink into such a miserable and boring life, and he should try his best to change the rest of his life.

Luckily, because of her husband, she learned English early. After the Anti-Japanese War, Chiang Kai-shek originally planned to make Zhang Lingfu an ambassador abroad, so he invited an English teacher to teach him English at home.

As Zhang Lingfu's wife, Wang Yuling has heard and mastered some basic English conversations during this period, which made her at least have less language barriers when she first arrived in the United States.

Other obstacles were overcome by Wang Yuling with her strong perseverance: for example, she was born in a noble family and later married to a senior officer, but after more exercise, her cooking was quite good;

She has never suffered since she was a child. During her work in the United States, she had to wear high heels for one morning every day and walk more than ten kilometers home. In the past, she always had to take a bus for such a long distance. However, Wang Yuling made constant efforts to adapt to the work, did a good job, and finally got a high salary of $15 a day.

In 1959, 29-year-old Wang Yuling graduated from new york University, and soon she got a job as an accountant in Roosevelt Hospital. Because of the complicated interpersonal relationship in this hospital, after two years' work, her financial director found another job, and she quickly changed her job and applied for a job in a world-class hotel in new york.

before her arrival, this hotel had an unwritten rule that only white employees were used. But Wang Yuling was admitted to the hotel to do accounting work. Three years later, she was "poached" by American Airlines and worked here until she retired in 1982.

During this period, Premier Zhou learned about Wang Yuling from the overseas Chinese who returned to China, and ordered Huang Hua to try to find Wang Yuling, and invited her to visit Beijing, welcoming her back to China.

At first, Wang Yuling hesitated, because she was, after all, the widow of a senior Kuomintang general. However, after receiving a sincere letter from Huang Hua, she dismissed her concerns. In the autumn of 1973, Wang Yuling arrived in Guangzhou from the United States via Hongkong, and returned to his native land after 25 years' absence.

In September, she flew to Beijing, and Premier Zhou, who was still ill, met her in Hunan Hall of the Great Hall of the People.

During the meeting, Premier Zhou said with great regret that he was responsible for not winning over Zhang Lingfu in time when he was the director of the political department of Huangpu Military Academy. This remark brought the distance between them closer. After all, Wang Yuling felt that her husband's death was not worth it for many years.

This visit to China left a very good impression on Wang Yuling. The Chinese leaders, represented by Premier Zhou, arranged her trip very carefully to ensure her safety.

She made careful arrangements and went to several big cities for secret visits. She was always protected along the way, and the reception standards were very high wherever she went. Since then, Wang Yuling has returned to Beijing to visit once or twice a year. After Premier Zhou's death, Comrade Deng Yingchao took over his "burden" and continued to receive Wang Yuling, which also made her feel at home.

The diplomat who received her said to her, "When you want to go back to the mainland, you can get a visa at any time and come and go freely!"

Wang Yuling himself has done many useful things for the motherland overseas. For example, during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan Province, in the name of Taiwan Province, two buildings, "Guanghua Liao" and "Tsinghua Liao", were purchased in Ginza, the most prosperous part of Tokyo in Japan, with considerable value.

After Japan surrendered, it shamelessly retained the property rights of these two buildings, which were used until 198s. After learning about this, Wang Yuling made continuous efforts through his interpersonal relationship abroad and got the property certificates of these two buildings. She gave the title certificate to the People's Republic of China and the State Council.

In the United States, Wang Yuling has served as the chairman of the American Beauty Society for two consecutive times since 1974. The original intention of this organization is to help Chinese who have difficulties living in the United States, and Wang Yuling has played a good role in this organization.

After the reform and opening-up, she supported her son Zhang Daoyu to return to China to set up a factory and invest in her own mulberry field. It should be said that Wang Yuling's education of children is very successful, but she always insists that her son is not allowed to perform military service. She said: "You should not be a soldier in Taiwan Province, let alone an American soldier!"

Wang Yuling has always had a deep love for the mainland. She once helped Yangzhou Medical College to build a friendly bridge with Queen's Hospital of Hawaii and promoted the development of Yangzhou Medical College. In her spare time, she also helps her son with business.

After returning to China for the first time in 1973, she went to different places every year and visited Zhang Lingfu's ex-wife's children. The daughter of Mrs. Oh already has two sons and one daughter, and the child of the child bride has become the vice chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Political Consultative Conference, and she has two sons and two daughters ... All these make Wang Yuling feel at ease and happy.
