What lens does Africa use to shoot animals?

If you are shooting wild animals in Africa, it is generally best to use a telephoto lens above 600 mm, because wild animals are alert and will run when they are close, and some wild animals will be dangerous when they are close. Many professional photographers use telescopes over 800 mm to shoot. But this kind of telephoto lens is usually heavy.
