Which one should I buy, 5D2 or D700? Or should I wait?

First of all, the 5D2’s metering is not bad, and its metering and white balance accuracy are much better than those of the D700. The 5D2 is much better than the D90 mainly in terms of imaging.

The peripheral focus points are a little worse, but only for the maximum aperture of 85 1.2. Only 1-2 cm is clear at 1.2 aperture. Focusing and recomposing with such a large aperture must be done by panning. Many people don't understand this, which causes the focus to shift.

I used 5D2+85L to shoot weddings, and there was no problem at all.

5D2 is a very mature machine. If you often look at pictures online, you will know that most domestic professional photographers (especially portrait photographers) use 5D2, so this machine can meet the needs of You need it 99% of the time.

The D700’s low pixels and lack of video are inherent weaknesses. In the era of 2000W pixels, it was not cost-effective. There was a rare case of burning out the CCD when shooting videos. Because of the amazing video effects of the 5D2, many small companies now shoot The video screens all use the 5D2+ video screen kit. I shoot for a long time every day and none of them get burned out.

As for the lens configuration, I don’t know what you want to shoot, so I wrote it down for you.

Because you already have a 70-200, I won’t write about the telephoto lens for you.

Portrait BT configuration: 5D2 17-40 F4+85 1.2

Landscape and portrait configuration: 5D2 16-35 F2.8+85 1.8

Macro Configuration: 5D2 100 F2.8 IS +24-70 F2.8 (can also be changed to 24-105), I like this configuration for daily shooting

Fixed focus Configuration: 5D2 24 1.4+50 1.4+135 F2

The above configurations are all made by myself, it depends on which one you like.

As for lenses, I also recommend a few to you:

85 1.2 is the strongest lens for portraits with autofocus. The terrible blur can make you confident in shooting, no matter how messy it is. The scenes are not scary, and once you get into this, there is nothing else to think about when it comes to portraits.

35 There is no 1.4 L prime lens with a wider range than this one. It can be used for humanities, portraits, and landscapes. The maximum aperture is good for imaging. It has no weaknesses except that it is not the first generation.

24 1.4 Human head, good value for money 35 1.4, but it is not easy to take portraits.

The 17-40 is a good lens, very sharp, and the workmanship is okay, but the distortion is too large, even larger than the Sigma.

The maximum aperture sharpness of the 16-35 at the 16MM end is much higher than that of the 17-40. The main difference is this.

24-70 There is not much to say about this, the color is good, there are no obvious shortcomings, and there are no obvious advantages. The main thing is that the maximum aperture of 70MM is a bit soft, which is very convenient to use on the 5D2. The long-lost wide angle is back. So excited.

Editing is so difficult to use, I spent a long time trying to type without getting fainted

Finally, I suggest you buy the 5D2 when the price drops back. If you are not short of money, you can wait until the 5D3 is launched. Enter 5D3.
