What is the biggest difference between the director's physiological thought and reality?
Compared with other disciplines and majors, there are "old jobs" after all. Students majoring in choreography can easily find out what their "old job" is because of their rich knowledge system. This has something to do with the school syllabus and training plan. Many colleges and universities, including broadcasting colleges, have not made it clear what is the difference between the major of "radio and television editing and directing" and other majors. Especially compared with radio and television, drama, film and literature, students majoring in radio and television are often particularly embarrassed. Moreover, before and after the director's professional art examination, the knowledge and ability requirements before and after graduation from college are too different. As a result, many college entrance examination directors reported to the director "by the way" when they took the radio performance test, but they didn't really do the work of "director" after graduating from college.
Unlike most high school directors, I decided to learn to be a director. At the age of 10, I worked as a small host, learned to make films and write manuscripts, and now I am a news editor at the age of 26. Before I went to college, I spent eight years in broadcasting, planning and photography. After I went to college, I played recording, arrangement, 3D animation, VR, drones ... It's really hard to say which is my "old job". However, when doing these things, I am very involved and enjoy it. That alone, I have much less trouble than most people.
And no matter what kind of activities, play, homework and part-time, you will always meet some classmates, peers and colleagues, who will be your future contacts. Until I took the art exam, I never missed a cultural class because of my major in choreography, and I never reported for an extracurricular remedial class. They are all based on the knowledge foundation laid by playing and learning for many years, as well as the help and suggestions of friends and classmates I have known for many years. Most of my schooling experiences were in Fujian and Taiwan Province Province. Although I work in Beijing now, many of my existing contacts were established when I was in college or even middle school.
On the one hand, universities study the director major because the final score of the college entrance examination is relatively high, and on the other hand, after trying different majors, they find that the richness of the director major suits me best. Many of my "old jobs" can continue to improve in the choreography major. Coupled with the academic system, I have learning experience in both comprehensive colleges and professional colleges. So the advantages of both schools can be absorbed. For my college life, I can refer to this answer.
What kind of experience do students who are radio and television directors in universities have?
When I was a monitor in a university, I sometimes asked my classmates why they reported journalism and communication and why they studied broadcasting and directing. But unfortunately, except for a few literary and art propaganda backbones, most people actually come because of low scores in applying for art or professional adjustment.
So that the students in the whole college seem to complain that they "clearly only want to do XX, why should they learn XX" and "learn everything, but know nothing". I also heard many sophomores and juniors complain that they have studied choreography for so long, but the more they learn, the more confused they become. On the Zhihu, there is such a question under the director's label:
Have you ever been confused as a director?
A choreographer has to learn everything because a good choreographer needs the ability to control the overall situation. In this way, it is necessary to understand the job requirements of each type of work. It is excellent to master nature in all kinds of work. In fact, if you can master one or two subjects, you can already gain a foothold in the industry.
Based on my working experience since I was a child, I dare say that in the past fifteen years, no matter how innovative the media industry is, no matter where my programs are broadcast and who I show them to. I always believe that "impress yourself first, then impress others". If you are not satisfied with what you have made, it is definitely not a good work.
For so many years, I can't remember how many programs I participated in. The scale is large and small, and the broadcast platforms range from CCTV to network platforms. There is not only a one-minute homework and graduation project, but also a large documentary project. I have worked as a photography assistant, translator, journalist, editor, director, sound director, etc ... I take all my work seriously with my professional ability. After a long time, the reputation among teachers and classmates was established. A little longer, the industry reputation has also been established. Accordingly, various competitions, internships, awards, bonuses and other opportunities will follow.
In this way, you will have confidence when looking for a job and jumping ship. On the one hand, as long as you submit your resume, you will have a great chance of receiving an interview invitation. On the other hand, it is easy to produce works and achievements in the work. After graduating from college, I have worked in different levels and types of production units. No matter where you work or what you do, you should focus on your work and stick to your major. You never know what kind of help you are doing now will bring to the future.
