Scientists photographed a "dragon" on Mars.
This photo was taken by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) designed and operated by the University of Arizona.
This high-resolution camera is installed on the Mars reconnaissance orbiter of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) of the United States, and it is the most powerful camera sent to other planets so far.
Since 2006, HiRISE has been sending back images to the earth. So far, its image has covered more than 2.4% of the surface of Mars.
In 2007, HiRISE photographed this "dragon" 258km southwest of Milas Canyon, in which the shape of the dragon is the bottom of the canyon and the surrounding rocks. It looks like it has not only a head and horns, but also organs such as eyes and feet.
In this picture, there are some rare massive sediments distributed at the bottom of light brown valley, which are dark in color, and the diameter of each block is between 100 and 500m. Although most of them are round, some are angular or slender.
NASA pointed out that there is evidence that the formation of many internal sediments in Milas Gorge was influenced by water and wind. For example, the black ripples around this "dragon" are caused by the action of the wind.
The information obtained by HiRISE helps people to understand the "red planet" of Mars. Here are some other amazing photos taken by this camera.
