Snow scene shooting skills
Snow and fog have similar effects, and they have their own uniqueness in expressing atmosphere and emotion. Snow will soften the whole scene, reduce the color saturation of the picture and blur the details of the picture. Similar to fog, it is often large and obvious objects that dominate the composition of the whole picture. Sometimes snow and fog appear at the same time, producing a fuzzy effect similar to impressionist painting.
Taking photos of snow scenes on sunny days, the snow is very reflective and bright, which is in sharp contrast with the scenery in the dark. When shooting, if this feature is not fully estimated, the details and levels of the picture will be lost. The photos taken are either overexposed by snow and dead white, or underexposed in the dark with no details. Therefore, when shooting snow scenes, we should not only reflect the characteristics of snow, but also take care of the contrast between snow and other scenery.
When shooting snow scenes, we should pay attention to the following points:
When shooting snow scenes, we should pay attention to the following points:
1. The emphasis is on exposure control. Bright white snow will lead to inaccurate measurement. Exposure according to the data given by the built-in metering system of the camera will make the snow scene underexposed. Generally,+1-+2ev file exposure is added before shooting. But sometimes without exposure compensation, the gray background is more likely to highlight the snow, but it will make the snowfall more obvious.
2. It is not appropriate to use diffuse light or smooth light on cloudy days when shooting snow scenes, because this kind of light is not conducive to expressing the texture of snow. Generally, side light, backlight or backlight are used. This can better show the layering of light and shade and the transparent texture of the scene to be shot. When using side light or backlight, it is best to add auxiliary light in the dark. You can use a flash lamp, a reflector or a white reflector in the surrounding environment.
3. The focus position of the snow scene is also very important for shooting snowflakes. If you focus on the background, the snow will become very inconspicuous. Even if the snowflake is focused in front, if the aperture is too narrow to make the depth of field larger, it will blend in with the background. Therefore, we must give priority to snowflakes, and suggest that the background should be blurred moderately, so that the snowflakes will be more obvious.
4. When shooting, consider adding a polarizer (CPL mirror) to the lens. It can effectively eliminate reflection and enhance the absorption of blue-purple light without affecting other colors. In this way, in clear weather, the blue sky and snow will behave well, otherwise the level of snow and ice will be lost, and the picture taken is very different from the scenery you see.
5. When shooting flying snow, the attitude of the snow will change with the speed of the shutter. High-speed shutter can solidify snowflakes in the air. Low-speed shutter can make snowflakes look like fuzzy lines and have the dynamic feeling of snowflakes falling. The effect of shutter speed is determined by the wind speed and the falling speed of snowflakes. It is difficult for us to predict the snowfall effect under different shutter speeds, so we can only try to adjust the shutter speed while shooting to accumulate experience in shooting snowfall.
6. When expressing snowflakes, look for some dark background objects to set off the falling trajectory of white snowflakes. Such as buildings, Woods, dark mountains in the distance, etc. In addition, in order to highlight the effect of snow, you can choose the day when the snow is heavy or when the snow falls to the maximum.
7. When shooting a vast outdoor snow scene, if there are no familiar things in the picture as a reference, just a piece of snow, you can't judge your distance from the distant snow scene, and you can't show the vastness of the snow scene. Therefore, things of known size are brought into the picture, such as people, animals, cabins and so on. By comparing the volumes, the size of the whole scene can be displayed.
8. Shooting snow scenes can use branches, trunks, buildings covered with snow or ice as the foreground, which can improve the expressive force of snow scenes. Because these prospects can not only change the picture, increase the depth of space, but also enhance people's feelings about the snow scene.
9. Shooting snow scenes, minimalism is a photography style that many people like. When snow covers everything, it also provides good conditions for minimalist composition. Friends who like minimalist composition can try it. It's easy to take good photos.
10. When shooting snow scenes, the role of shadows cannot be ignored. When the sun angle is low, the blue of the shadow area generated by the scene looks very beautiful in the snow. When composing a composition, you can consider including the subject and shadow together in the picture.
1 1. The picture obtained by using automatic white balance (AWB) in snowy days will turn blue and the color tone will be cold, so you should manually increase the color temperature according to the scene, or directly select the white balance mode of "Snow Scene/Cloudy Day". You don't need to consider the adjustment of white balance when shooting in Raw format.
13. The best way to shoot a scene with large light ratio is to manually take several photos of different exposure value, and then use software to synthesize them later. For example, in addition to normal exposure, take two underexposed photos and two overexposed photos, so there is an exposure difference of 1-2 between them. These photos can be processed by Photoshop software and finally synthesized into a single photo.
14. When shooting snowflakes, you can also use the method of compulsory use of flash. Under the amplification of flash, snowflakes will become more obvious, sometimes with amazing effects, and the picture is very vivid, which is also a good way to show heavy snow.
15. By using good colors and matching cold and warm colors, white snow gives people the feeling of being cold and lifeless. At this time, if some warm elements can be added, the picture will be warmer and more lively, and the picture will be richer and more lasting. Usually there is a finishing touch effect, but also through the strong contrast of colors to highlight the main body. For example, a touch of red in the snow, a bright umbrella and so on.
17. In the wild in winter, the battery of digital camera will drop rapidly in low temperature environment, so you must make preparations in advance, such as buying a camera warm cover and bringing enough spare batteries! As for the remedy of sticking the warm baby on the camera, it is unnecessary and ineffective.
18. When shooting snow scenes, it should be noted that the lens and fuselage will condense water vapor just after returning from a cold environment to a warm room, which is very unfavorable to the camera. Please pay special attention. So how to prevent the appearance of water vapor? In case of large temperature difference in winter, it is necessary to put the camera in a camera bag or a plastic bag prepared in advance in a low temperature environment (water vapor will be isolated from the outside world). After entering a warm room, put the camera in a cool place indoors, such as near the window, let the camera adapt to the indoor temperature slowly, and then take it out to ensure that water vapor will not enter the camera and lens.
