Appreciation of the Original Text and Translation of Wang Bo's Nine-Day Ascension in Central Sichuan

Climbing a mountain in the middle of Sichuan on September 9: On September 9, at Wangxiangtai, he took a farewell cup in another place. Human feelings are tired and bitter in the south, and Hongyan is from the north.

On the ninth day of the Double Ninth Festival, I climbed high and looked back at my hometown. In a foreign country, I am particularly worried about setting the table to send my friends and raise a glass. I'm tired of all kinds of sadness in the south. I don't think I can go back to the north. Why does Hongyan come from the north?

Note: September 9 refers to the Double Ninth Festival. Wangxiangtai: People who went to war or lived in a foreign land in ancient times often climbed mountains or earthen platforms to see their hometown. This platform is called Wangxiangtai. Other seats: other people's banquets. This refers to a party to see friends off. A foreign land: a foreign land. South-central: South, referring to Sichuan area. That: Why? North: North.

On September 9/9 in central Sichuan, the poem "Returning to the Hometown Station on September 9" begins with the title, pointing out that the time is the Double Ninth Festival and the place is Xuanwu Mountain. Here, Xuanwu Mountain is compared to a hometown station, so as to express and multiply homesickness. The Farewell Cup shows the wine that the poet drank at a farewell banquet in a foreign land, which made him feel sad. The first two sentences of the poem outline an environment that makes people feel sad easily. It coincides with the Double Ninth Festival, and it is also the season of seeing guests off. Naturally, it evokes a deep homesickness, which naturally causes Hongyan's next two seemingly unreasonable questions: "Human feelings are tired in the south, so Hongyan is a northerner?" 」

Flying from the north to the south is a natural phenomenon. Wang Bo pinned his homesickness on it and blamed Hongyan. I think I can't go back to the north, but you have to fly from the north, which adds to my sadness that I can't go back to the north. Although this problem is unreasonable, it sets off sincere feelings in strong contrast and pushes homesickness to the peak. These two sentences are famous in this poem. When commenting on these two poems, predecessors once said: "At the beginning of reading, it seems to be a vulgar word, but after a long time, you will know its strangeness." Indeed, although this question seems to be blurted out without thinking, it is actually the poet's well-meaning and originality. The poet integrated homesickness into the description of natural scenery, and expressed deep affection through ruthless scenery, which opened the precedent of the quatrains in the Tang Dynasty.

The lyric techniques of this poem are also varied. The first sentence highlights the poet's homesickness with the word "homesickness"; The second sentence highlights the loneliness of a foreign land by seeing Fujian off; The third sentence directly expresses the pain in the chest and has strong feelings; The fourth sentence is euphemistic and unique, lyrical by scenery, and reflects her homesickness with Hongyan's ignorance of the suffering in the south. This repetitive expression highlights the intensity of homesickness. Conciseness of language is also a major feature of this poem. It uses similar daily spoken language, such as "he is from other places" and "he is from the north", which is simple and friendly, which is one of the reasons why this poem is widely circulated.

In the early Tang Dynasty, quatrains developed slowly, and their expressions generally followed the tradition of Han, Wei and Southern Dynasties. However, this poem by Wang Bo only uses four sentences to write homesickness, but it expresses homesickness incisively and vividly, breaking through the small pattern that the court quatrains in the early Tang Dynasty mostly strive for progress by chanting things. The poet also deliberately absorbed the tone of the lyrics in his poems, ending with the progressive sentence pattern of function words, which played an important role in the development of quatrains.

The background of Wang Bo's creation in the "Nine-Nine" Mountaineering in Central Sichuan was bumpy all his life, and he was often displaced as an official. Therefore, homesick farewell poems are the most common themes in poems, such as Farewell to Du DuDu. On the Double Ninth Festival in the first year of Xianheng (670), Wang Bo, who lived in Xishu, climbed Xuanwu Mountain with his friends to see his hometown. On the occasion of the Double Ninth Festival, it was another time to see Fujian off, which aroused the poet's strong homesickness, so he wrote this poem.
