How to take a picture of splash effect?
Nikon D800/ 105.0 f/2.8 Settings: F8 ISO 250,1125s,105.0mm.
I. Technology When shooting continuous shooting, the main content you need to know is not "freezing", not caused by the set shutter speed, but "freezing" caused by the pulse speed of the light source. In other words, the scene was illuminated for one second (from 1/4000 seconds or even faster), and the camera only captured what happened in this short time.
In fact, the exposure here will not affect the final photo. Of course, if it is long, stray light from windows or lamps (which will not appear in your light pattern) will enter the matrix during exposure. Therefore, it is best to set the shutter speed to a synchronous value (the minimum shutter speed at which the shutter does not fall into the picture). Depending on the model of the camera and flash, it is usually1160 or 1/250 seconds.
As for the camera, any camera that can normally interact with pulsed light is suitable. Such as professional D850 or amateur 5200. I want Nikon D800 and Nikon 105mm f/2.8 FX.
AF miniature nikkor lens, when used together, can compress the space very well, so that you can handle small-sized backgrounds. In addition, the lens can also provide a high-definition frame, allowing you to take the clearest photos.
Second, we need props:
Ice cream form (preferably recognizable popsicle form);
It means to fix the fruit in the air (if there are no professional clips, needles, knitting needles and textured paper);
Syringes for spraying water and small glasses for larger splashes;
Fruit;
Edible pigment;
A light source suitable for shooting continuous shooting;
Camera and tripod.
I like that it interacts with gravity in an inconspicuous way. In this case, it rises from the fruit ice without falling. To do this, fix the ice cream upside down and put a piece of fruit under it to leave enough space. Fruits can be perfectly connected with fine needles and clips for needlework, and in the absence of fruits, wooden threads can be inserted into a piece of foam.
It is best to use a multiplier, anything that does not melt (at least a ruler) instead of fruit ice when dealing with composition and lighting, and introduce its main function at the last minute when everything is ready.
IV. Lighting and Settings To "freeze" continuous shooting, please set the flash to low power (1/8 to1128). This will enable you to capture actions that are invisible to the naked eye. Remember, the short-time shutter speed cannot be fixed by pulse (the acceptable shutter speed depends on the model of the flash, and in my case, the synchronous shutter speed is about1160 seconds), nor can it be fixed by pulse. The scene is illuminated in a short time. If the flash is not turned on, the camera will capture absolute darkness, so please turn off all external light sources that may affect the scene.
Nikon D800/ 105.0 f/2.8 Installation: ISO 125, F6.3,1125mm.
The drawer is located in the bar box on the left, behind the scene and behind the big diffuser on the right. These pictures show how they are opened in turn, first drawing (making ice cream and translucent orange pulp glow) and then filling (making shadows lighter and forming volume).
Please remember to set the camera to continuous shooting mode so as to take multiple photos in succession.
5. Take some ice-colored water, then water the ice and fruit with a syringe or a glass, and film the whole process. Try several spraying methods until you get a beautiful "anti-gravity" spray. It is best to "break" the splash to the back of the ice cream as much as possible, so as not to cover the outline of the ice cream and the outline of the internal fruit.
If sprayed directly on the ice with a syringe, the water will break into water droplets, and the water that does not fall into the focus area will become a beautiful round or polygonal scene.
Try to do the experiment with the background, the shape and direction of the explosion and opaque liquid (milk with food coloring looks interesting).
In this way, you can easily take inspiring and beautiful shots!
