Cangzhou is known as the "hometown of martial arts". Cangzhou Wushu originated in Sui and Tang Dynasties and flourished in Ming and Qing Dynasties. Wang Ziping, one of the top ten masters in the late Qing Dynasty, is as famous as Huo Yuanjia, Wang Wu, Yanzi, Du, the master of sea lanterns, and Dong Haichuan, the founder of Bagua Palm.

Cangzhou Boxers have made positive contributions to the development of China Wushu. In the Republic of China 17 (1928), when Zhang Zhijiang, the general of Cangzhou National Army, was the director of the Central National Art Museum, he strongly advocated strengthening the body against aggression and saving the country and people. Nearly 100 people from Cangzhou entered the library to teach for further study.
