The 37-degree scientist who can't go back confirmed: What does it mean that the temperature of the human body is getting colder?
Speaking of normal body temperature, many people think it is about 37 degrees. In fact, scientific research shows that the normal body temperature is no longer 37 degrees.
Many people know the conclusion that the average body temperature is 37 degrees, but they don't know how this conclusion came about.
German scientist Karl Vendrikh put forward for the first time that 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit) should be 185 1 year after actually counting the temperature information of 25,000 people, and this conclusion was widely recognized at that time.
Later, scientists found that normal people's body temperature actually fluctuated between 35 degrees and 37.7 degrees. According to the average, the average body temperature should be 36.8 degrees.
From June 65438 to1October 17, 2020, the research of Stanford University in the United States found that the body temperature of modern people has dropped by 0.03 degrees every 10 year on average since 19 century. Especially for men, it is 0.59 degrees lower than that of people 150 years ago.
In another study, anthropologists conducted a long-term study of Tsimane, a relatively remote indigenous tribe in Bolivia. When they first started this study, the average age of Zimane adults was 37. But in the past ten years, the measured value has dropped to 36.5 (36.53 for women and 36.57 for men), with an average annual decrease of 0.03.
Human beings are warm-blooded animals. Keeping the body temperature within a certain range can make the cells and metabolic reactions of the human body operate more effectively and avoid the breeding of germs inside and outside the body. Whether the body temperature is too high or too low, it will make the normal operation of human body function abnormal. Friends who have studied biology in middle school should know it. Therefore, the significant drop in body temperature has aroused the interest of scientists and puzzled them at the same time.
As we all know, human body temperature will change due to external interference. Therefore, some people may think that the average body temperature drop is normal, but it is not.
At present, there is no conclusion about the significant reduction of human body temperature, and everyone has different opinions and cannot reach an agreement. At present, one of the main assumptions is that sanitary conditions are improved, clean water is more accessible, drugs are better and faster, and the risk of human infection is reduced, thus lowering their body temperature. This assumption seems to hold water. Two centuries ago, the medical level of European and American countries was not the same as it is now. At that time, people were threatened by more diseases and infections, so they needed to keep their body temperature relatively high. This hypothesis can explain the temperature changes in recent centuries, but it is difficult to explain the temperature changes of Zimbabweans and modern people in recent years. Although some infections in Tsimane are indeed related to the increase of body temperature, they are not enough to explain the sharp drop of body temperature, because infections are still common in rural Bolivia.
Others think that it is easier for us to keep a constant body temperature because of the invention of air conditioning and heating. It may be meaningful in relatively advanced modern areas, but Tsimane, as an indigenous population, still does not use any modern technology to assist in regulating body temperature, which is an important reason why scientists take Tsimane as the research object.
There is also a saying that the sample is not accurate enough. In fact, the analysis is based on a large number of samples of 5500 adults and as many as 18000 long-term observations, and many other factors that may affect human body temperature are considered.
Some people think that it is a low-income group and the sample is not representative. However, a recent study in the United States denied their point of view. It was found that the average human body temperature in high-income countries was 1.6%(36.4℃) lower than that in the pre-industrial era.
In addition, there are many hypotheses, but none of them are supported by strong evidence.
Scientists haven't come to a conclusion about the cause of the remarkable drop in body temperature, which should be influenced by many factors. The only certainty is that human beings are constantly evolving, which is inextricably linked with human evolution. Many people don't believe in the theory of evolution enough. The biggest reason may be that, for ourselves, humans 5000 years ago seem to be no different from modern people. In fact, human beings have been evolving, and faster than we thought.
In addition, due to the smaller face, the space for accommodating wisdom teeth is reduced, and the proportion of wisdom teeth is gradually decreasing.
Scientists at the Dutch Cancer Institute wrote in the British journal Radiotherapy and Oncology that they found a new organ in the human body: salivary glands hidden in the upper part of the throat. The newly discovered salivary gland is called "Eustachian gland" by researchers.
From the arm, to the face (teeth), to new organs (which may not have been found before), to the drop of body temperature, all this proves a conclusion: human beings are indeed constantly evolving.
Humans have studied their body structure for thousands of years, but today in 2020, many new things are still discovered. The mystery of the human body is waiting for the continuous exploration of scientists. Every such magical exploration and discovery is believed to be the charm of science.
