Wuyuan Cave Scenic Area

Attraction Introduction

Wuyuan Cave is now located in Bashan Forest Park. According to legend, someone once held a candle to explore the cave, and after burning 7 and a half candles, there was still no end, so it was named after "it is so far-reaching that it is impossible to find its source" ("Badong County Chronicle").

There is a geyser of water flowing out of the cave, with a sound like thunder, water droplets splashing on jade, and vast water vapor flowing into the Yangtze River, refreshing with bursts of cool breeze. There is a gorge inside the cave, a tunnel in the gorge, and a hole in the tunnel. On the way into the cave, there are stone chairs and benches for tourists to take a rest, which is really a good place to escape the summer heat. It integrates mountains, water, caves, gorges, forests, springs and historical sites. It has two of the "Eight Ancient Scenic Spots" of Badong, "Bashan Night Rain" and "Wudong Fairy Spring". It is the site of the thousand-year-old ancient city of Badong and is known as "Heart of the Three Gorges·Gateway to Badong".

The location of the attraction is within Bashan Forest Park, Xinling Town, Badong County

Recommended Tour Items

(1) Wuyuan Gate

According to the fact that the stone carvings have been submerged in the Wuyuan Cave Canyon : The name comes from the meanings of "Stream of Enlightenment", "Wudong Immortal Spring", "Lingshan Holy Land", etc. The couplet: "The wind calms the waves in the Three Gorges, and the rain falls on the mountains and smoke." The first is to praise the Three Gorges Project, the second is to express the good expectations of the people in the reservoir area for improving the ecological environment, and the third is to embellish the magnificent scenery of the new Three Gorges.

(2) Golden Boy and Jade Girl Peak

The big white rock halfway up the mountain looks like a pair of golden boys and jade girls. According to textual research: the Yuefu folk song "Shangxie" of the Southern and Northern Dynasties sings this tragic love story - "Shangxie, I want to know you, and live forever. There are no mountains and mausoleums, rivers are exhausted, winter thunder shakes the summer rain and snow, When heaven and earth are united, I dare to be with you." It sings about five impossible natural phenomena to express love and loyalty in the world. It is said that young people who take a photo under the Golden Boy and Jade Girl Peak will never forget the love of life, newlyweds who take a photo here will grow old together, and elderly couples who take a photo here will clearly recall the time of love in the past.

(3) Laigong Gate

Laigong Gate commemorates Kou Zhun, the prime minister of the Northern Song Dynasty. Kou Zhun was from Shaanxi. In the autumn of the fifth year of the Taiping Xingguo reign in the Northern Song Dynasty (980), he passed the imperial examination and was named Tanhualang (the first number one scholar, the second second person, and the third person Tanhualang). In the autumn of the same year, he was appointed as the magistrate of Badong County. During his three years in Badong, his political achievements were extraordinary. Later he was promoted to participate in political affairs (at the age of 33). When he was granted the title of Duke of Lai, he was already a Taifu.
