(Photo/Zhang Shijie) At 9: 00 pm, Deng Shixiong, Dean of Xindian Gengshen Hospital, and Lin Hengyi, Vice President jointly held a press conference to explain the condition and treatment process. Dean Deng Shixiong said that before his death, Shan Guoxi felt satisfied without suffering, and he also sent blessings to the people beside his sickbed. His 88-year-old sister in Chinese mainland also called his sickbed, which made Shan Guoxi go peacefully.

Dean Deng Shixiong emphasized that Shan Guoyu had lung adenocarcinoma six years ago. Although his condition was once controlled, cancer cells metastasized to the brain and bones in May this year. In the past six years, Cardinal Shan Guoxi has endured the pain of targeted treatment such as diarrhea, oral mucosal ulcer, scalp ulcer, etc., but he accepted it gladly and faced it bravely, which can be called the learning object of every cancer patient.

Lin Hengyi, the project leader of the medical team of Shan Guoxi and vice president of Geng Xin Hospital, said that Shan Guoxi was diagnosed with stage 4 lung adenocarcinoma in Geng Xin Hospital in July 2006 and began to receive chemotherapy and targeted drug treatment. Originally, doctors predicted that he would only live for 3-4 months to 6 months, but Shan Guoxi struggled with the disease with a positive attitude and began to give lectures around the world in 2007. He often quoted President Ma Ying as saying that "it is difficult to get through customs", but he also stressed that "veterans have to lie down at the end ...".

In fact, Shan Guoxi has poor lung function because of lung cancer. On the 20th, he was hospitalized again because of pneumonia. He once said that he was unwilling to accept severe first aid such as gas cutting. However, in the evening, his condition took a turn for the worse and he was unconscious. The hospital took supportive conservative treatment according to the patient's requirements, and Shan Guoxi had no pain until he swallowed his last breath.

According to Shan Guoxi's will, the funeral will be handled by Taiwan Province Catholic Bishop College, which will hold a mass ceremony, but no follow-up memorial service has been arranged yet.
