Why is Guangzhou Triennial called Triennial as follows:

Guangzhou Triennial is one of the earliest biennials in China. Since its establishment in 2002, Guangzhou Triennial has maintained a rigorous and independent academic position, globalization and local academic speculation. After more than 20 years of precipitation and accumulation, it has not only realized the artistic linkage of international vision, but also witnessed the development of contemporary art in China, becoming an art event that radiates to the south and even the whole country.

The theme of this year's Guangzhou Triennial is "Change in Change", with Wang Shaoqiang (China) as the chief curator and Wu Hongliang (China), Philip Dodd (UK), Emmers (Germany) and Jiang Jun (China) as the curators, inviting more than 50 artists and groups from home and abroad from a wider cultural background to try to open a contemporary picture of change.

The theme is taken from China's classical philosophy "Everything changes, the budding area is tangible" in Zhuangzi Tiandao and "A long time of change, many general principles" in Wen Xin Diao Long. Talking about this theme, Wang Shaoqiang, the main curator, said, "The gradual disappearance of certainty is an unavoidable era context in today's society. We are in it, and it vibrates. As the perception and reappearance of the complex world, art is the recorder and interlocutor of each era segment.

In the exhibition, Cao Fei's work "Role" explores the transformation between reality and virtuality, and between society and individuals. Although the characters in the works come from the virtual comic world, the scenes are closely related to reality. In the "Menglisha Hair Salon" in the exhibition hall, the life scenes of the small town, posters with a sense of the times, televisions and red lights were restored. The "Adagio" section mainly displays fabrics, paper and ceramic works of art-most of them are carefully designed devices.
