What does Sony camera backlight correction mean?

What function?

1) obviously does not support the lens driven by the body motor, which is not an important problem for most D40 target users, but for some photographers, especially those who like to use fixed-focus lenses, I am afraid it needs careful consideration. Because most of Nikon's built-in motor fixed-focus lenses are expensive telephoto lenses, even the civil AF-S fixed-focus lenses are special AF-S VR 105/2.8Macro lenses, and their prices are much higher than the D40 fuselage itself.

The choice of the remaining fixed-focus lens is Sigma, in which the equivalent viewing angle of AF30mm F 1.4 EX DC/HSM on the non-Quan Huafu digital fuselage is equivalent to 45mm, which is just the focal length of PTZ, and the price is also at the civilian level: about 3,000 yuan. The only drawback of this lens is that the out-of-focus imaging is not very good.

There are many options for zoom lenses with built-in motors, so I won't say much here.

2) There is no bracketing photography function, including bracketing exposure and bracketing white balance. Personally, I don't think this is a particularly big problem for me, because I usually shoot the histogram on the spot to judge the exposure effect.

3) The battery is not compatible, which is also Nikon's strange decision. In order to reduce the size of the fuselage, they did not hesitate to design completely incompatible batteries, which were smaller in volume and capacity than those of D50, D70 and D 100.

4) The exposure compensation step is only 1/3, and D50 is also 1/2.

5) The focus area is reduced from 5 to 3, that is, the upper and lower two are removed. It must be admitted that I seldom use areas outside the center of the 5-focal area system, including F5, F 100, F80, D 100, etc. Maybe I don't think the positions of the four key areas are close enough to the edge. In short, I seldom use them. In the machine of 1 1 point focus area system, I use the focus area near the edge more, especially when shooting portraits in vertical format.

6) LCD for shooting information on the set-top box. This reduction is a good thing, which will be explained in detail below.

So what does D40 add to D50, or what are the benefits of using it?

1) The first one should be the LCD on the back, which is increased from the original 1.3 million pixels 2 inches to 230,000 pixels 2.5 inches, just like D200 and D80. Coupled with the reduced body, the LCD occupies most of the back area and the viewing effect is quite good.

2) Followed by the viewfinder, the magnification law is improved from 0.75 times of D50 to 0.80 times. If the viewfinder magnifier DK-2 1M is added, the equivalent viewfinder magnification is 0.936, which is almost the same as that of D200 and D80. Of course, D50 and D70 can also use this magnifying glass.

3) New design and improved user interface. After D50 simplifies some body buttons and a large-capacity dial, many camera settings need to be modified by entering the back LCD menu, so the function of the top LCD is not so important. The D40 is just a simple step, taking away the LCD at the top of the chicken rib machine and completely relying on the LCD on the back to set and change the shooting parameters.

Before, I (owned) and used Pentax ISTDS and Olympus E-300, and there was no set-top box LCD. In fact, it is more convenient to use the back LCD at night and in dark places, including when I shoot runway fashion with a tripod. I also hope to make changes from the LCD on the back more quickly.

Use the same menu as D50 except shooting parameters (sensitivity, white balance, focus mode, continuous shooting mode, image quality and size, etc.). ), D40 also designed two very creative and friendly user interfaces.

There is a shutter aperture screen in the graphical interface, and its shape will change according to the setting, which intuitively displays the shutter aperture selection. In addition, selecting this interface will also change the style of the menu, with black fonts on the gray background.

Another feature of modifying parameters from either of these two interfaces is that each parameter has a corresponding graphic display. For example, sensitivity, ISO 200 is an outdoor scene during the day, ISO 400 is a fast-moving ship at sea, ISO 800 is a night scene and so on. White balance has a similar visual display, which should be helpful to new users.

The only key point is that when using the graphical interface, when rotating the instruction dial to change the aperture or shutter speed, the change of LCD display has a little delay, while the traditional interface has no such delay.

In practical use, I prefer the LCD user interface on the back, which is more intuitive and faster than the change of the D50 (and D40) entry menu. With the Fn key mentioned later, it won't be too much trouble to set and change shooting parameters.

4) The Fn button with user-specified function first appeared on the Coolpix camera and the D200 digital SLR body, which is a button with user-specified function. Designated functions include: delayed self-timer, shooting mode (single sheet, continuous shooting, self-timer, remote control, etc. ), image quality/size, ISO sensitivity and white balance. At present, I choose white balance. When this Fn button is pressed, the LCD on the back will light up and the WB part will be designated. At this point, you can select different white balance modes by rotating the dial. If this Fn button is assigned to other functions, the operation mode is the same. Although it is a little more troublesome than the dedicated buttons of D200, as a SLR fool, at least D40 is better than D50.

5) automatic sensitivity improvement. Like D200 and D80, automatic sensitivity can choose the highest value and the lowest shutter speed. This is very useful for using the "shutter speed+aperture priority" exposure mode.

6) The highest sensitivity is increased by HI- 1, which is equivalent to ISO 3200. I haven't used it. It is estimated that the full-size image quality is bad enough, and it may only be used when there is really no way.

7) retouching menu (I prefer traditional Chinese translation: retouching function) is a new menu since D80, including D-Lighting, red-eye correction, cropping, monochrome, filter effect, thumbnail and image synthesis. Some people may criticize that these functions that should be run on later computers are unnecessary on cameras, but I have a different view.

In most cases, these functions are really more convenient and faster on the computer, but if you used up all your cards when you were out shooting, these retouching functions will be of great use. For example, you use RAW because you are not sure about the exact exposure time. When the card is almost used up, you can choose the pictures that need Nikon Capture or D-Lighting in the later stage of Capture NX on the camera. In this way, you can get a satisfactory JPEG image, and then you can delete the RAW(NEF) file.

Similarly, if you know that you don't need a large size to use photos, you can use the thumbnail or crop function.

By the way, I think this way of using D-light in the camera is more suitable for DRO (Dynamic Range Optimization) of Bisogni a- 100, because the latter needs to be set before shooting, and there are two different degrees of choices, while D-light is done after shooting. For the occasion that DRO or D light is needed, the picture is usually in the situation of large light contrast, which can be said to be the artificial remedy of software algorithm. Users who often use the portal machine don't know what is the occasion where the contrast of light is large, such as taking portraits against the light. Do you want him to decide whether to start DRO before shooting and choose one of two different settings?

Nikon's Re-Touch menu also lacks some functions, such as simply changing the settings of RAW files, such as white balance, sharpness, simple brightness compensation (not D-Lighting), and the function of converting RAW files into JPEG files. If these functions are available, users can shoot in RAW first, and then process it quickly and simply in the camera to get qualified JPEG files, and choose whether to delete the RAW files. If I remember correctly, Pentax K 10D has these functions.

8) My menu is similar to D80, and users can choose which items to display. But "My Menu" is hidden in the "Settings Menu", instead of being separated like D2 and D200.

Based on these differences, I think that as long as users don't care about AF lens selection, D40 will exceed D50 in any case, especially in terms of user interface. I also hope that the LCD interface on the back can appear on some high-end machines, because it is really needed in practical use.
