What does zoom mean?

Zoom is a technical term for photography, which refers to changing the size of the shooting picture by changing the lens.

In photography, camera zooming means that the subject looks closer or farther away. Zooming in allows you to observe objects at a closer distance, while zooming out allows you to capture a wider space. This can be achieved by using an optical lens to enlarge the image or simply cropping a certain area of the image.

The optical zoom in smart phone is realized by a series of lens elements, and the camera can be enlarged and reduced by the movement of the lens. Optical zoom provides the best amplification effect and has little effect on image quality. Optical zoom provides lossless results because the content in the photo is magnified by manipulating the light in the scene.

Theoretically speaking, taking an image with optical zoom is the same as approaching an object. However, the lens quality will have some influence. Depending on the lens, the aperture will also decrease with the increase of focal length. On the other hand, when you really can't get close to the subject (for example, you want to shoot a bird stuck in a branch), optical zoom is still the best solution.

Benefits of using scaling

1, diverse viewing angles: the zoom lens has a wide focal length, which can capture more different viewing angles and pictures, making shooting more flexible and diverse. The viewing angle of a fixed-focus lens is fixed, so it is impossible to change the viewing angle as easily as a zoom lens.

2. Convenient composition: the focal length of the zoom lens can be freely extended and contracted, and the camera does not need to be moved frequently during composition, which can save physical strength and facilitate shooting inaccessible scenes.

3. High definition: The optical system design and adjustment of zoom lens is usually more advanced than that of fixed-focus lens, so the picture taken has higher definition, especially when shooting at the telephoto end.

4. Strong applicability: the zoom lens can be applied to various shooting scenes, such as landscapes, portraits, animals and sports. Fixed focus lens is usually only suitable for specific shooting scenes, and its applicability is not as good as that of zoom lens.
