Graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Jiangsu Institute of Education in 1991; in 1988, his oil paintings participated in the Jiangsu Youth Art Week; in 1992, his mixed-material works participated in the Guangzhou Biennale; in 2001, his photography works participated in Dusseldorf, Germany husband art exhibition; established Xu Xin Documentary Studio in 2000, specializing in documentary creation; created the documentary "Horse Skin" in 2002, 81 minutes; created the documentary "Carriage" in 2004, 18 minutes; created the documentary "Fangshan Church" in 2005 , 80 minutes; the documentary "Torch Troupe" created in 2006, 110 minutes; Xu Xin's documentary focuses on the living conditions of the lowest class in China, especially disadvantaged groups and minority groups. In October 2003, the documentary "Horse Skin" participated in the British SHEFFILD International Documentary Film Festival; in November 2005, "Horse Skin" participated in the Second Guangzhou Triennial; in April 2006, "Fangshan Church" participated In the 3rd China Documentary Exchange Week; in August 2006, "Carriage" participated in Berlin's "Made in China - Art and Film from Beijing"; in September 2006, "Horse Skin" participated in the China Pingyao International Photography Exhibition; in October 2006 "Horse", "Carriage" and "Fangshan Church" were collected by Li Xianting Film Fund and Songzhuang Art Museum; in February 2007, "Carriage" participated in the Berlin Chinese Independent Documentary Exhibition.
Xu Xin started filming "Karamay" on the "December 8th" anniversary in 2007. It took half a year to visit 60 families, and 13 paragraphs were completely preserved in the film.
