Are there really those colorful clouds in the sky? What's your name? How is it formed? Somebody explain.

There are really colored clouds in the sky, called "mother-of-pearl clouds". At the end of winter in some high-latitude areas, before sunset or after sunrise, when the sun is under people's vision and the cloud is at a high enough height, after long-term irradiation by the sun, the cloud is refracted, making the cloud emit purple, blue, red and yellow light arcs. These light arcs are almost arranged concentrically, similar to the colored ribbons under sunlight, and have pearl-like luster.

Extended data:

Mother-of-pearl cloud, common in polar regions, is formed at the bottom of the extremely cold stratosphere nearly 20,000 meters above the ground, and consists of nitrate hydrate and ice crystals. At night, although the sun is below the horizon, the sunlight can still shine on these ice crystals and refract, showing a rainbow-like color. Although the mother-of-pearl cloud is beautiful, it is very destructive, because it is formed in the position of the ozone layer, which provides ideal conditions for photochemical reactions that will destroy the ozone layer, thus leading to the hole in the ozone layer.

In addition, the appearance of mother-of-pearl cloud also means that ozone consumption is increasing. Because photochemical reaction will destroy about 1% ozone every day, and mother-of-pearl provides the necessary conditions for photochemical reaction of chlorine compounds, resulting in a larger hole in the ozone layer. Therefore, if the mother-of-pearl cloud appears in the Antarctic region, it may be a sign of global warming.
