Outstanding features of real-time display and shooting function of Canon digital SLR camera

With high-performance LCD, it is easier to observe.

At present, most EOS digital SLR cameras use 3.0-inch TFT color liquid crystal display with wide viewing angle. Naturally, an image display closer to the sRGB color gamut can be realized. The application of camera technology makes the clarity of displayed images extraordinary.

The exposure of the captured image can be simulated.

According to different models, you can press the real-time display shooting button or the setting button to start convenient and multifunctional real-time display shooting. The following will mainly take EOS 500D as an example to explain the representative functions of real-time display shooting. In addition, regarding the basic operation of each model, the icon located near each function description can be linked to the detailed operation description for reference.

Start real-time display shooting (EOS 500D)

Set to creative shooting mode.

Press the real-time display shoot/print/share button.

Just press the real-time display shooting key to switch to the real-time display shooting mode with one button. When starting the real-time display shooting of EOS 500D, just press the real-time display shooting/printing/sharing button in the default setting state to start it directly (the models before EOS 500D need to be set in advance). Please note that because real-time display shooting is a shooting mode that can adjust various shooting settings in detail, the modes outside the creative shooting area (P/Tv/Av/M/A-DEP, etc. ) can't start.

Change autofocus mode (EOS500D)

Real-time mode

Small digital cameras also adopt autofocus mode. The contrast of that image project on the image sensor is detected for focuse. Because the image sensor itself is used as an autofocus sensor in real-time mode, it can focus on almost any point in the whole image area.

Face priority real-time display shooting

Face recognition technology is used to automatically detect the face, and the focus frame is automatically displayed at the face position. When focusing, a white focus box will be displayed on the face. At this time, press the button to start autofocus, and when the white focus frame turns green, the focus is completed.

Fast mode

In real-time display shooting, the phase difference detection autofocus sensor can also be used for focusing, just like in conventional shooting. Therefore, when focusing, the main reflector will drop, so the LCD that displays the real-time shooting picture will temporarily appear black screen. But structurally, it ensures the fastest focusing speed in real-time display shooting mode.

Manual focus

Like normal shooting, manual focusing can also be used for real-time display shooting. If the focus mode switch on the lens side is set to "MF", you can focus in the manual focus mode regardless of the autofocus mode on the camera side. Focus by observing the image on the LCD monitor.

Change photo style (EOS500D) standard

monocolour

It is very convenient to observe the LCD and take pictures while checking the color rendering effect.

The photo style that can be called the color characteristics of EOS digital SLR camera series can also be changed in real-time display shooting like conventional shooting. When shooting with real-time display, almost all models can confirm the color change caused by the change of photo style through LCD before shooting. Therefore, the hue change caused by the change can be conveniently confirmed, and more detailed selection can be made. Moreover, according to different models, the sharpness, contrast, saturation and tone (sharpness, contrast, filter effect and tone effect in monochrome mode) of each photo style can be fine-tuned, and the adjustment of these details can also be confirmed by real-time display of the shooting picture. If you simulate the desired imaging effect through real-time display shooting, you don't have to worry about it when shooting formally, which can make shooting smoother.

Automatically change white balance (EOS 500D)

You can master the color change caused by ambient light at will.

When shooting in real time, you can also change the setting of white balance while observing the imaging effect through the LCD, which can ensure good results. Available white balance modes include Auto, Sun, Shadow, Cloudy, tungsten lamp, White Fluorescent, Flash, User Defined and Color Temperature. The adjustment method varies from model to model. In particular, EOS 5D Mark II and other models can confirm the color tone change when the color temperature mode changes through the liquid crystal display, which makes it easier to select the white balance accurately and has a wider application range.

Changing driving mode (EOS500D) single shot

Self-timer/remote control

Self timer: 2 seconds

Self timer: continuous

You can also change the driving mode during real-time display shooting.

The driving modes that can be selected for real-time display shooting are basically the same as those for conventional shooting, and you can choose single shooting, continuous shooting, selfie and other modes. New models such as EOS 500D can change the driving mode while maintaining the real-time display of the shooting picture. You can use the main dial to select the required driving mode while observing the icons displayed in the real-time display shooting screen. Even if the motion of the subject changes when considering composition, it is very convenient to change the driving mode accordingly.

Change the image quality (EOS 500D)

You can change the picture quality at any time even if you are ready to shoot formally.

EOS 500D and other models can change the setting of image recording quality while maintaining the real-time display of shooting pictures. In the process of shooting, you can choose according to the situation, such as changing the image recording quality to RAW+JPEG. The operation and setting method of changing the image quality mode in the real-time display shooting state varies with the camera model. Please refer to the camera's user manual to confirm the number of pixels and file size of the image.

Understand the enlarged display function that can confirm the real-time shooting picture in detail.

In the shooting state of real-time display, if other autofocus modes other than the face priority real-time mode are selected, every time the autofocus point selection/zoom button is pressed, the enlarged display will be centered on the enlarged frame (white frame displayed in the real-time display shooting screen). In the normal display mode, when the autofocus point selection/enlargement button is pressed for the first time, the display will be enlarged by 5 times, and when the button is pressed for the second time, it will be enlarged by 10 times, and then return to the normal display mode. Especially in manual focusing, this function is often used to confirm the focus, so it is best to master the operation method of this function skillfully.

Further master the real-time display shooting function.

After understanding the basic operation of real-time display shooting, let's further master the setting method of real-time display shooting. In addition to mastering how to "turn on" or "turn off" the real-time display shooting function, grid line display, exposure simulation and other basic settings, we should also master how to set the function to make the real-time display shooting smoother.

Understand the function settings of real-time display shooting.

Select "On" or "Off" for real-time display shooting of EOS 500D.

Set real-time display shooting to "Start"

For real-time display shooting, you need to set the real-time display shooting to "Start". Although the default settings vary according to the camera model, the default settings of models before EOS 500D are basically "Off". For real-time display shooting, you need to set the real-time display shooting function to "Start". After completing the setting operation, just press the button used to start the real-time display shooting of each model, and you can start the real-time display shooting. If you can't shoot in real time, first check whether this setting is correct.

Display of grid lines (EOS500D)

Grid lines convenient for composition

Grid lines refer to the horizontal and vertical grid lines displayed in the LCD monitor when shooting in real time. Its purpose is to facilitate composition and keep the picture horizontal and vertical. Some models, such as EOS 500D, have a finer grid "grid line 2" mode besides the sparse grid "grid line 1". Other models can only choose "Off" or "On". No matter which model it is, it should be used in combination with the observation effect and purpose of the picture. "Grid line 1" adopts the golden section composition scale, and the intersection of vertical line and horizontal line is the golden section point. If the subject is arranged at this point, an ideal composition can be obtained and can be used as a reference for composition.

Setting of metering timer (EOS500D)

Control the action time of photometric sensor

Photometric timer refers to the function of adjusting the display time of exposure parameters during real-time shooting. In the default setting state of the camera, the shutter button will appear on time, and stop after 16 seconds. When the setting time is too long or too short, you can choose the required time from various settings. The selectable time range is at least 4 seconds and at most 30 minutes.

Distinguish between using three autofocus and manual focusing modes.

Real-time mode-you can move the focus frame freely, which is very suitable for shooting scenes that pay attention to composition.

Even if you want the focus position to be at one end of the screen, you can move the focus box to focus. Therefore, it is very effective for shooting scenes dominated by composition. Suitable for taking portraits and landscape photos.

Use the cross key or multi-function selector to move the focus box.

The focus frame in real-time mode can move freely in the picture. The moving mode of the focus box varies with the model, and it is usually operated by the cross key or the multi-function selector. When stopping at any position, that position becomes the autofocus point.

Press the autofocus start button to perform autofocus.

After determining the position of the focus frame, press the autofocus start button and the camera will start autofocus. The autofocus start button may be different according to different models, but there are usually special buttons, none of which are automatic exposure lock buttons. When the focus box turns green, the focus is completed. At this time, you can press the shutter button, release the shutter and take pictures.

Because there is no limit to the position of the focus, the focusing principle of the real-time mode is to measure the contrast of the object on the image sensor and focus while scanning the wavelength difference of the contrast. So you can focus almost anywhere in the whole picture, and the composition will not be limited by the layout of the focus, just like when shooting with a viewfinder. Moreover, since the position of the focus frame can be set freely, there is no need to use autofocus locking. You can freely move the focus frame to the desired focus position. At the same time, it also has the characteristics of real-time display, continuous display and uninterrupted display. In addition, any part can be enlarged to achieve more accurate focusing. Although the degree of freedom of the focus position is universal, it may take a little longer to complete the focus according to different scenes. People like portrait photography are basically easier to use in static scenes. In addition, it should be understood that focusing may take a little longer in places with poor light.

Face-first real-time mode-suitable for taking photos and grabbing people, and autofocus mode is equipped with facial recognition function.

When a face is detected, the white focus box will be automatically displayed on the LCD monitor. Even if a person moves horizontally, the focus frame can automatically track. When the position of the focus frame coincides with the face to be focused, press the autofocus start button to start autofocus and shoot. When focusing is completed, the focus frame will change from white to green.

You can choose from multiple faces at will.

When the face automatically selected by the camera does not conform to the creative idea, you can use the cross key or multi-function selector to select the face that you want to autofocus. This is very effective when shooting with people deep in the picture as the main body.

Auto-focus mode, automatically detects the face of the person in the picture, and the shooting angle is free to use "face recognition technology" to focus. It can automatically detect the face in the picture and automatically display the focus frame. Priority can be given to focusing, even if the background is mixed with people, people's faces can be detected, and the possibility of focusing errors is small. In addition, when there are multiple faces in the picture, priority will be given to the recognition according to the size of the faces in the picture, and the focus box will be displayed at the prioritized faces. When you want to focus on other faces, you can use the cross key or multi-function selector (depending on the model) to select the face you want to focus on. It not only realizes automation, but also fully embodies the photographer's creative thinking.

Fast mode-used for high-angle shooting and low-angle shooting, which is the fastest autofocus mode for real-time display shooting.

Even if you can't visually observe the height when using the optical viewfinder, you can easily change the shooting angle to shoot if you use the fast mode. Suitable for all kinds of subjects, including portrait photography. It has a wide range of applications, including portrait photography in the crowd and a large number of group photography.

Low angle shooting

Even if you have to lie down at a low angle before shooting, you can freely complete the composition if you use real-time display to shoot. The posture when shooting is easier than using a corner finder, and you can shoot at various bold shooting angles without worrying about getting dirty clothes.

Just like when shooting with an optical viewfinder, you can choose to use all the focus points and use the phase difference detection autofocus sensor built in the camera to focus, just like when shooting with an optical viewfinder. Because the autofocus mode is the same as when shooting with an optical viewfinder, the autofocus mode is very fast and suitable for shooting moving subjects. The available focus is the same as when shooting with an optical viewfinder. You can not only automatically select, but also manually select all the focuses and use a specific focus. Just press the autofocus start button to start autofocus, which is fast and convenient. Even at the shooting angle that is difficult for the optical viewfinder to shoot, the focus can be completed quickly. It is not only suitable for photographing portraits, but also suitable for capturing or photographing animals.

Manual focusing-Enlarged display+tripod can achieve high-precision focusing.

It is easy to realize accurate focusing.

Manual focusing real-time display shooting

In real-time display shooting, high-precision focusing effect can be obtained by using manual focusing. Because it is rarely influenced by the brightness of the autofocus sensor or the subject itself, it is suitable for shooting landscapes or night scenes. When magnified, the LCD display is very clear and the details can be well grasped.

Manual focusing method for real-time display shooting

1. Fix the camera on the tripod.

In real-time display shooting, if you want to use manual focusing to obtain high-precision focusing effect, the premise is to use a tripod. Although there are no restrictions on the tripod used, if the tripod is not firm enough, it may cause the real-time display of the shooting picture to shake, which is difficult to observe and needs attention.

2. Switch to manual focusing mode

Slide the focus mode switch set on the side of the lens to the "MF" position. For lenses without autofocus mechanism, such as TS-E lenses, this operation is not required. In addition, you can focus in the manual focusing mode no matter what settings are adopted in the automatic focusing mode of the camera.

3. Determine the focus position

Start real-time display shooting and display the image on the LCD monitor. Manual focusing is used to roughly focus and adjust the overall image and composition. To determine the part you want to focus on accurately, use the cross key or multi-function selector to move the magnifying box.

4. Enlarge the display by 5 times and focus roughly.

Press the autofocus point selection/zoom button to zoom in 5 times first. You can also focus directly by enlarging the display by 10 times, but sometimes it may be difficult to grasp the overall image effect due to the drastic change of visual field. It is best to enlarge the image by 5 times to grasp the focus and image atmosphere.

5. Enlarge the display by 10 times to further focus accurately.

After the focus position is finally determined, press the autofocus point selection/magnification button again to improve the display magnification. A display with a maximum magnification of 10 is used for final precise focusing. If it is difficult to get the best focusing effect, you can operate the focusing ring with a little bigger action to find the clearest position.

Release shutter

When the focus position is determined and the focus is completed, it is necessary to check whether the subject and its surrounding environment have changed again. Especially when shooting scenes such as city scenery, it is best to remember to check whether the scene has changed during the focusing process. Press the autofocus point selection/magnification button again, and then gently release the shutter to finish shooting.

Subvert the common sense of 35mm SLR camera and realize revolutionary high-precision focusing. Manual focusing is used for real-time display shooting, and the focusing accuracy is high enough to subvert the common sense of 35mm SLR cameras. Especially when shooting landscapes and night scenes, it is required to focus the details correctly, but the phase difference detection autofocus sensor has its limitations in structure after all, so professional photographers will use manual focusing mode in this case. However, when focusing through the focusing screen of the optical viewfinder, the photographer's habit and the performance of the viewfinder will have a great influence on focusing. For ordinary users, the higher the pixel of the camera, the more difficult it is to complete accurate focusing. When shooting with real-time display, you can combine enlarged display with manual focusing, and anyone can easily get professional focusing effect. The reason why high-precision focusing can be easily realized is that the real-time display shooting picture that can be displayed in the liquid crystal display is very clear, and the image display quality of this liquid crystal display has brought great influence to all operations. For real-time display shooting, not only a lot of functions are needed, but also the quality of various functions is needed.

Macro flower-you don't need to choose a place, you can take macro flower photography with potted flowers.

Camera: EOS 500D

Lens: EF-S 60mm f/2.8 USM macro

Aperture priority automatic exposure (F3.5,11250 seconds)

Exposure compensation: +0.7EV

White balance: automatic

ISO 100

Photo style: standard

Step 1 Arrange the bought potted flowers.

You can not only take macro flower photography in nature, but also take photos in nearby parks or your own gardens. If you buy potted flowers from a flower market or flower shop, you can immediately turn an ordinary place into a garden. When buying potted flowers, you should choose color matching according to the final image effect you want to obtain. You don't need too many potted plants if you plan to take a close-up shot. Make sure the flowers are the main body, arrange them near the center of the picture, and then place other potted flowers appropriately. The color matching of background potted flowers should consider the fuzzy effect.

Step 2: Use the backlight position to keep the camera low.

When shooting flowers, in principle, you should use backlight or ensure that the sun is directly above or near. This is to make the flowers shine, while avoiding the shadows of photographers and cameras from entering the picture. In step 1, flowers should be arranged with this in mind. The position of the camera is relatively free. If you want the background to be completely blurred, you can shoot at a low angle, which makes it easier to achieve the blurred effect. In this case, it is best to prepare a tripod suitable for low-angle shooting in advance. If the tripod can't be put down, you can put flowers on the table or something, which creates the same effect as shooting at a low angle.

Step 3: use a reflector to ensure light irradiation.

As explained in the second step, flowers are also backlit, so a reflector should be placed in front of the camera to let the reflected light shine on the flowers to improve the brightness. This can ensure that the light illuminates the details of the flowers, thus obtaining a realistic effect. The position of the reflector is relatively free, and the placement position can be determined according to the state of the light source. If you can't get satisfactory results on the ground, you can move it by hand to find a suitable position. At this time, it is necessary to operate the reflector with one hand, so it is more convenient to have a small reflector. If there is no favorite product on the market, you can also paste white paper on the cardboard shell and make it yourself.

Step 4: Spray water on the flowers with a watering can to get the effect of water sprite.

If the flowers are left outdoors for a period of time for the sake of composition, the surface of the flowers will become dry. As dried flowers are not suitable for taking pictures, spray some water with a watering can before taking pictures. This will not only make the flowers come alive, but also the water droplets will produce reflected light, adding highlights to the photos. If you want to imitate dew, don't use a too thin nozzle, but adjust the nozzle to attach larger water droplets. If the hose is sprayed directly with tap water, it will damage the flowers, so pay full attention.

Step 5: Use manual focusing mode to focus accurately.

In macro flower photography, it is best to focus by real-time display shooting and manual focusing. In focusing accuracy, it is much better than the method using optical viewfinder. There is no better method for macro photography at present. The structure of the stamen is very complicated, and different focusing positions will bring subtle differences to the photos. From this point of view, real-time display shooting can enlarge the picture locally, which is the most reliable focusing method and the possibility of focusing error is the smallest. Zoom in to 10, adjust the final focus position and release the shutter.

general idea

Good operability outside the corner of viewfinder

It presents a super macro photography effect higher than equal magnification.

As mentioned above, macro flower photography and real-time display photography have good matching characteristics. Originally macro flower photography usually used manual focusing, but with the emergence of real-time display shooting, more accurate ultra-precision focusing became possible. Today, in order to get the correct focus when shooting with an optical viewfinder, accessories such as corner viewfinder are often used. However, the magnification obtained is limited after all, and the position of the enlarged part cannot be moved. In these aspects, real-time display shooting is completely above the corner finder and other accessories, which has undoubted advantages. Even with special lenses such as "MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5X macro photography", shooting can be easily completed if real-time display is used. In this way, even the special lenses that we were afraid to buy in the past can be used with confidence now, and the real-time display shooting function will create a brand-new world of photography art for us.

Advanced skills

If you want to take a close-up of flowers, you should use a lens with a longer focal length. From the performance characteristics of macro lens, even if the focal length changes, its maximum magnification is usually the same. However, if you want to enlarge flowers with a lens with a shorter focal length, you need to shorten the shooting distance to a very small distance, so you can't use a reflector. When a macro lens with a focal length of about 100mm is used, flowers can be magnified and imaged even if they are kept at a certain distance, and the shooting operation is very convenient. It should be remembered that the focal length of the macro lens does not refer to the difference of the maximum magnification of the lens, but the difference of the shooting distance.

Commodity photography-shoot beautiful goods with the function comparable to that of a large-format camera.

Camera: EOS 500D

Lens: EF 100mm f/2.8 USM macro.

Shutter speed priority automatic exposure (F6.3,115 seconds)

Exposure compensation: -0.3EV

White balance: automatic

ISO 100

Photo style: landscape

Step 1 Stick a tracing paper on the window to soften the light.

The taste of product photos depends on the quality of light. Professional photographers often use big flashlights at the shooting scene, but we can stick a big tracing paper on the window as shown in the figure to form a large area light source, so as to obtain good lighting comparable to professional light sources. The light source used by professional photographers is characterized by a large light source. Usually, a large reflective umbrella is installed on a large flash to diffuse the light and obtain uniform light suitable for shooting goods. Sticking a tracing paper on the window is also to achieve a similar effect. If you can control the sunlight well, the final effect will not be much different from that with a big flash.

Step 2 wrinkles the background cloth to create a sense of high quality.

This time, a smooth square cushion cover was used. Under the illumination of light, it will flicker due to reflection, and it will be crumpled by hand to create a more advanced feeling. Although flat cushion covers are also acceptable, if there are moderate folds, the goods themselves will usually be more eye-catching. If the fabric itself is elastic and difficult to keep wrinkles, it can be fixed outside the screen with adhesive tape to control the wrinkles of the background fabric. There are no established rules for this kind of operation, and it is basically based on personal feelings.

Place a reflector to reflect light.

Reflect the light from the window with a mirror, so that the light can illuminate the whole subject without omission. This can make the goods have bright spots and get a vivid impression. The vertical reflector in the legend is very convenient to use. If the products on the market are not satisfactory, you can also fold white cardboard as a substitute. If the reflectivity is not high enough, you can stick the aluminum foil used in the kitchen on thick paper to improve the reflectivity. Moreover, there is no limit to the number of mirrors, and a plurality of mirrors can be used at the same time.

Step 4 shows the grid line adjustment composition.

It is very important to eliminate the tilt and deformation of the subject in commodity photography. So use a lens with a slightly longer focal length to avoid deformation. Real-time display should also display grid lines when shooting, and carefully determine the position of the subject while adjusting the tilt of the picture. The grid lines displayed in the "grid line 1" mode basically adopt the golden section ratio, so as long as the parts that need to be highlighted in the goods coincide with the intersection points of the grid lines, the composition can be determined very easily.

Step 5: Manual focusing and precise focusing.

Commodity photography needs more focus than other types of photography. Whether the focus position is consistent with the part to be displayed needs the patient's confirmation. It is best to use manual focusing mode when focusing. Move the zoom box freely to determine the focus position, zoom in 5 times or 10 times to display and focus. Then move the zoom-in box to confirm whether the focus range (depth of field) covers the whole subject again. Release the shutter gently.
