What are the six Gelug temples?

These six Gelug temples are Gandan Temple, Sera Temple, drepung monastery Temple, Tashilhunpo Temple, Ta 'er Temple and Labrang Temple in Lhasa. Gelug Sect is a sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The Tibetan gelug school word means "good law", which is named because it emphasizes strict observance of precepts. In China, it is often called Yellow Religion and its founder Zong Kaba. Originally called "New Gadang School".

1. Gandan Temple, one of the six major sects of Gelug Sect, is also the ancestral temple of Gelug Sect and belongs to the three major temples in Lhasa. Located about 30 kilometers northeast of Lhasa, Zhuoriwo car is halfway up the mountain and is now open to traffic. This is the first gelug sect monasteries built by Zong Kaba himself in 1409.

The abbot of Gandan Temple inherited and continued in the form of Chiba (Farah) in ganden, and there was no reincarnation system of living Buddha. The first Chiba was Zong Kaba, and the second was Jia Caojie, the first disciple of Zong Kaba. By 1954, it has spread to the 96th Chiba.

The number of monks in this temple has been fixed at 1300 in history. Gandan Temple was demolished during the Cultural Revolution and rebuilt at 1980. It has begun to take shape. There are 277 monks living in the temple, including Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Ghosts, Immortals and famous Buddhist temples in China.

3. drepung monastery, one of the six monasteries of Gelug Sect and the first of the three monasteries in Lhasa, was built by Zong Kaba disciple Jiang Yang Dianjie in 14 16. Located at the foot of the southern slope of Gepeiniaozi, about 10 km west of Lhasa. Drepung monastery is mainly composed of Gadanpozhang, Dajingtang, rosalind Zhacang and Deyang Zhacang.

The number of monks in history is 5500. At present, Sera Temple is full of incense and is full of worshippers and tourists. There are 327 monks living in Sera Temple.

It is located in the western suburbs of Xigaze, Tibet. Tashilhunpo Temple is large in number and scale, with the largest bronze Buddha statue in the world, namely Maitreya Buddha statue, and the Lingta Hall of the Panchen Lama in the temple.

The number of monks in history is 4400. Tashilhunpo Temple is the residence of Panchen Lama in past dynasties and enjoys a high status in Tibetan areas. At present, Tashilhunpo Monastery is still resplendent and magnificent, and it can be called one of the great monasteries in Shigatse area and even the whole Tibetan area, with 786 monks living there.

5. Ta 'er Temple, one of the six Gelupai temples, is located in Huangzhong County, Qinghai Province, only 26 kilometers away from Xining City. It is the birthplace of Zong Kaba, the founder of Gelug Sect, and this famous temple was built in memory of this religious leader. Therefore, Ta 'er Temple plays an important role in Tibetan Buddhism, especially in Gelug Sect.

Ta 'er Temple, called Gebenqiang Bahrain in Tibetan, means Maitreya Island, with 100,000 Buddha statues. Ta 'er Temple is actually a gelug sect monasteries gradually formed from small to large. It was built by a local monk Renqin Zongzhe in 1560, and then a Maitreya Buddha temple was built in 1577, which was continuously expanded by later generations.

Ta 'er Temple is mainly composed of Dajingtang, Xianzong Academy, Tantric Academy, Shilun Academy and Medical College. At the peak, there were more than 3,600 monks, especially the paintings and pile embroideries of ghee sculptures in the temple, which were known as the three wonders of art and enjoyed a good reputation at home and abroad. In a word, Ta 'er Temple is a Tibetan Buddhist temple that combines Tibetan and Chinese architectural styles.

At present, Ta 'er Temple has become the most important religious shrine and tourist attraction in Qinghai Province because of its long history, unique features and convenient transportation. There are more than 500 monks living in the temple.

6. Labrang Monastery is one of the six major monasteries of the Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism and the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Gansu Province. It was built by the first Jiaming Wang E Tang Zong in 17 10. It is located in the western suburb of Xiahe County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Region, Gansu Province. It is surrounded by mountains and waters, and there are many pines on the opposite hillside. The environment is very pleasant.

Labuleng Temple is mainly composed of Dajingtang and Siwen College, Xu Shang College, Xuxia College, Shilun College, Medical College and Khwajira College. At the peak, more than 3,600 people hated couples. Labuleng Temple enjoys a high reputation in Tibetan Buddhism because of its perfect and rigorous academic system.

The owner of Labrang Temple is a living Buddha like Jia Mu in all previous dynasties, which has been passed down to the sixth generation, that is, Kumuta Tandjinima in Lausanne. At present, Labrang Temple has become the largest religious shrine and cultural center in Amdo Tibetan area.
