Plot summary

In the summer of 1946, the Kuomintang authorities assembled a large number of troops to attack the liberated areas. Zhang Zhijian, a platoon leader of a certain People's Liberation Army unit, was ordered to lead his troops to conduct an interception on the high ground outside a certain town to cover the transfer of the main force. After five days and nights of bloody fighting, they were out of ammunition and food, and the situation was very critical. During the breakout, platoon leader Zhang, cook Lao Wang, and correspondent Xiao Liu were all injured and captured. In order to find the food and military equipment buried by the People's Liberation Army, the director of the enemy's political engineering department used both hard and soft methods to interrogate Platoon Leader Zhang and other three people.
