Is photography a major?

What did you learn in the course?

The most important thing for freshmen is to learn the use of machines, the composition skills of photos, the use of light and matters needing attention.

Sophomore students will study art foundation, photography history, audio-visual language and photography technology in the last semester. Next semester, we will offer exposure control, composition, introduction to art, PS and black-faced film and television photography.

Junior year, increase the content of architectural photography. Learn to build personal websites and social platforms, and learn the history of photography and advertising photography. Video shooting and editing, more written content. Practice how to contact the model agent, make up your hair and form a shooting team. There will be a large fashion shooting project at the end of the term.

Where is the employment going?

1. Documentary photography, but in general it should be news reporting photography. The graduation direction is generally to be a photojournalist in newspapers and news websites. According to my friend's school teacher, because of the emergence of new media, employers are more willing to recruit talents in the photography city.

There are too many directions for commercial photography, which is what most people mainly engage in. Generally speaking, they earn a lot of money compared with the other two directions. They can take pictures and advertise airplanes (architecture, still life, food, clothes, jewelry, etc. ), also do photo studio photography (quality and quantity).

3. The direction of artistic photography should be the most unprofessional photography, which is generally done by people who call themselves artists. The circle of artistic photography is not big, and the unknown usually have their own sideline, even if they are famous. Generally, people in this direction participate in exhibitions, act as agents in galleries and sell their own works to make money.

Generally speaking, if you can get into photography major and make a living by photography, you should take these three paths. Its middle school documentary photography can be a reporter, commercial photography can be engaged in advertising and wedding photography (very low-end), and pure art is done by artists.

Personal feeling

Photography itself is not simply pressing the shutter. You will learn the theory of camera imaging, the great history of magnum photos, regional exposure, film development and different training.

Photography, like all industries, has both commercial and research aspects. In recent years, commercial photography will decline. After all, short video is the world now, but short video is always a medium that takes a few seconds or even dozens of seconds to understand information. Pictures can highlight information in a short time, which is also impossible for short videos. So photography will not be eliminated in the future.

Every industry has its own pyramid. Compared with other industries, the income of photography pyramid will be much lower. Moreover, before reaching the top of the pyramid, the photography industry did not rely on photography technology to make money, but more on marketing.
