Six Common Illustration Styles

What is MBE style? Baidu, you will know.

It was designed by designer MBE who dribbled the ball. It is simple, interesting and beautiful, and has been called "MBE style" since its popularity.

The characteristics of MBE are summarized from five aspects.

Before you learn how to draw, you should know the characteristics of this style, so that you can have a better start.

After careful observation, I sum up my feelings from the following five aspects.

① Lines: concise, thick and bright, smooth and supple. There is an obvious breakpoint, but it is also a very smooth transition.

2 shape: the outline dominated by lines is also round, without prominent sharp corners and right angles, and it feels full and fat.

③ _ Consultation: The colors are very bright, usually yellow, orange and blue. There is background color overflow and obvious light and dark colors, that is, highlights and shadows.

④ Expression: Minimalist lines and simple smiling faces make objects personified and lovely.

⑤ Ornaments: There will be decorations around the main body, which are basically changes such as snowflakes, crosses and circles.

Draw MBE illustrations in five steps

How to draw it specifically? Come on, five steps.

Let me explain, because I always copy a pile at a time, and my personal painting habits are definitely different, so the steps don't need to be the same, and it's simple and convenient to get there.

The following is a summary of the steps of egg routine based on four copies, for reference only.

① Draw the outline first.

Select the Single Line brush in Calligraphy.

_ Draw the outline with glue.

Erase some lines with an eraser and make broken lines.

② Handling breakpoints.

Draw a "dot" with the same thickness and move it to the interruption of the erase line to create a circle.

3 Add an expression.

_ Hard-to-wipe mace _ Hard-to-wipe mace.

(4) Apply background color to increase shadows.

_ Fairy, move to contour edge to create overflow.

_ ≡ Obsessed magpies are hard to understand. They paint along the edge of the outline and create shadows.

Choose a color lighter than the background color and highlight it.

Five skills of drawing quickly and well

I am used to adding an area to the canvas as a "copy record" after copying, and I can also review my whole process feelings from four copies of the copy record.

From "finding it difficult" to "addiction" to "finding it easy", I also came up with some small methods.

① Draw the outline quickly.

Some pictures are symmetrical. If you want to draw faster and better, you can use the symmetry auxiliary function.

In the drawing guide function, choose symmetry, and there are horizontal, vertical, four quadrants and radial options to help us draw better.

② There are four ways to deal with breakpoints quickly.

◆ _ Hook: As mentioned above, draw a "dot" with the same thickness and move it to the interruption of the erase line.

_ Fat Pocket: Restore the original marked path and overflow the breakpoint from the point.

Large pixel shift: Enlarge lines, and on the basis of dot method or dot method, supplement or erase the detailed pixel grid by adjusting the thickness of "eraser" or "brush".

◆ _ Prize: The first three methods actually test patience, and the fastest method is the fourth one. Directly copy the endpoint that has not been erased at the other end of the line, and then move to the breakpoint, perfect!

3 quickly add embellishments.

When copying multiple icons at a time, it takes a lot of time and patience to decorate them one by one. But Goose obsessive-compulsive disorder doesn't want to make every ornament look the same just by copying layers.

What should I do? Make a decorative brush, which can be done quickly, and the position and color can be changed.

④ Keep the copy size consistent.

Draw a grid before painting, and plan the layout through the grid of the same size.

⑤ Keep the line thickness consistent.

Everyone who has stepped on the pit knows that when we zoom in and zoom out, the original line will also become thinner, so in order to avoid this situation, we also need to make a good layout in advance with the grid above, so that we don't have to zoom in and out later.

It allows the creator to grasp the inspiration at any time, and carry out artistic creation such as sketch, color filling and design through simple operation and professional function collection.

It is characterized by more than 200 brushes, each of which can be defined by "Brush Studio" or made by itself.

Drawing interface

The drawing interface of Procreate is divided into three main parts, as shown in the following figure.

Part 1: There are tools needed for creation at the upper right of the interface, including brush library, painting, erasing, layer and color.

Brush library: the system comes with a variety of brushes. You can also manage the brush library, import custom brushes or share homemade brushes.

Smudge: Render various colors, and you can use the brush library to generate a series of different effects.

Erase: correct or fine-tune with an eraser, and you can find a suitable rubber shape in the brush library.

Layers: Layers are like movies containing text or graphic elements, stacked one after another to form the final effect of the page. You can easily edit, move or delete individual elements through layers, and you can recolor elements.

Color: There are five interface options: color wheel, classic, color harmony, value and palette. Through these options, readers can select, adjust or coordinate colors for their works, store, import and share color palettes, and drag colors onto their works to fill colors.

① Color wheel: The "color wheel" mode is in the form of a color ring. In this mode, the outermost color ring can change the hue of the color. After selecting a color, you can adjust the brightness and saturation of the intermediate color.

② Classic: "Classic" mode is to select colors by adjusting the elements of colors. The 1 color band is used to control hue; The second color band is used to control saturation, with the lowest saturation on the left and the highest saturation on the right; The third color band is used to control brightness, with the lowest brightness on the leftmost side and the highest brightness on the rightmost side.

③ Color Harmony: There are approximate color, complementary color, complementary color division, trisection and rectangular color matching modes in the "color harmony" mode. These five ways provide more possibilities for color matching. In addition, the brightness can be adjusted by the color band in the middle of the interface.

④ Value: The "Value" mode is to adjust the color by adjusting the value of HSB, RGB or CMYK. HSB stands for color element, which we often mention. This model is more accurate. If we want a specific color, we can enter the exact value here.

⑤ Palette: The "Palette" mode is to match colors through the color cards that have already been toned. We can import photos directly, and then the software will generate a set of color cards according to the color matching of the pictures. This is a very convenient way to match colors.

Part II: In the sidebar on the left side of the interface, we can find various modification tools, including brush size, modification, brush opacity, undo and redo.

Brush size: Adjust the slider up to increase the brush size, and adjust the slider down to decrease the brush size. If you want to fine-tune the brush size, hold down the slider and drag it to one side, then gently slide it up and down, and you will see that the adjustment range of the brush size becomes smaller.

Modify: Click Modify, and the system will automatically bring up the color selection straw, which can instantly select colors at any position on the canvas. In addition, the Modify button can be set as a shortcut to any tool or option.

Brush opacity: Drag the slider to reduce or improve the visibility of the brush to create a transparent or opaque effect. Similar to the adjustment of brush size, we can hold down the slider and drag it to one side, and then slide it up and down to get a more accurate opacity effect.

Undo and Redo: Click the Undo arrow above to cancel the previous operation, and click the Redo arrow below to resume. A notification message will be displayed at the top of the interface, telling us which operation has been redone or cancelled. In addition, long press the arrow can quickly redo or undo the multi-step operation, and can undo up to 250 steps.

Part III: There are advanced functions on the top left of the interface, including gallery, operation, adjustment, selection, transformation and deformation.

Gallery: Organize and manage our works, create new canvases, import images or share our works.

① Click the Select button to select multiple canvases for stacking, previewing, sharing, copying and deleting.

② Click the "Import" button to import files or photos.

③ Click the name of the canvas to rename it.

④ Click the+button to create a new canvas with a specified or customized size.

You can customize the canvas to adjust its size, color profile, zoom video settings, canvas properties and so on.

Operation: Insert, share, adjust necessary practical functions such as canvas and content, and adjust the interface and touch settings.

Adjustment: Refine our works with professional image effects. Quickly adjust complex colors, apply "gradient mapping", or make the work more perfect through the effects of "sharpening" and "noise".

① The special effects of "fault art" will make the works appear garbled, which can be used to draw Cyberpunk-style illustrations.

(2) "Halftone" can make the picture have a dot effect similar to that of the old poster. Swiping the screen to the right can change the details of the special effects.

Selection: You can use four selection tools and a series of advanced options to edit the image, so as to optimize the work more accurately.

Transformation and deformation: includes 4 transformation and deformation tools and a series of advanced options. From basic scaling functions such as "free transformation" and "equal ratio" to distorted mesh functions such as "distortion" and "bending", transformation and deformation tools can make the work more perfect.

Brush Studio provides various settings for existing brushes. We can also create our own brushes and make our own settings.

The interface of "Painting Studio" is divided into three parts: attributes, parameter settings and "Sketchpad". Click the button in the menu on the left to modify its parameters, and you can see the adjustment results in the sketchpad on the right.
