In 2004, a Namibian wildlife photographer named Herbert brower discovered a lonely lioness while shooting spotted hyenas in Liuwa National Park. The local natives told him that it was the only lion in the park.

Herbert called her "Lady Liuwa". Lions are social animals, so it is difficult for a single lion to survive in the wild. However, Lady Liuwa survived successfully and was in good health.

In September 2008, Zambian wildlife protection department set up a working group at Herbert's suggestion to find a husband for Lady Liuwa. They set off for Cafu National Park (located in central Zambia) 400 miles away to find a suitable lion.

Soon, they found one, knocked him down with a tranquilizer gun, and immediately drove him to see Lady Liuwa. Unfortunately, due to the large dose of anesthesia gun, the young male lion suffered from heart paralysis and died in transit.
