Film Analysis in In the Mood for Love

In the Mood for Love, it should be at least a year ago. I decided to write an article about In the Mood for Love, because I have never had any confidence to express my views convincingly, especially in pure words. Even if I explain to my friends while watching a movie, only a few friends agree with me. So I put some thought into it and added some illustrations, hoping to make it as clear as possible. But even so, I don't expect friends who read this article to agree with me. I don't expect anyone to agree with me. Because Wong Kar-wai's fans can't understand his movies.

I have seen more than a dozen film reviews about the mood for love. Everyone is talking about its nostalgia, its music, its photography, Maggie Cheung's cheongsam, Tony Leung Chiu Wai's best actor title, and Wong Kar-wai ... but the plot of In the Mood for Love has never been told, at least not in depth. Of course, everyone knows that this is a story about an extramarital affair, but the context of the story has not been discussed in detail, which is very sad for a movie. After all, the plot is the most basic element of a movie. However, Wong Kar-wai's movies are so special that many non-Wong Kar-wai fans think that Wong Kar-wai's movies have no plot at all, while Wong Kar-wai fans are proud to understand the plot of Wong Kar-wai's movies. As for In the Mood for Love, its film language is so rich and concise that most Wong Kar-wai fans are at a loss. "In the Mood for Love" was spurned by most fans in Wong Kar-wai, and "I can't read it" is one of the reasons. So this is a Wong Kar-wai movie that Wong Kar-wai fans can't understand. Of course, for most people, it doesn't matter if they don't understand it. It's enough to understand the feelings, but I dare say that if you don't understand the plot of In the Mood for Love, you can't really understand the feelings it expresses.

In fact, the plot of In the Mood for Love is not complicated. There are three reasons why it is so obscure:

The first reason, Wong Kar-wai. In the Mood for Love is a movie driven by Tony Leung Chiu Wai's expression! Such a film may be unprecedented. It's hard to imagine that Tony Leung Chiu Wai's eyes constitute the support of the movie plot! This was of course Wong Kar-wai's idea. Many people are very disdainful of Tony Leung Chiu Wai's winning the Best Actor in Cannes, saying that he won the Best Actor because of his real performance, or that the title of Best Actor was compensated by the Cannes judges. If you think so, what a pity? You don't know what Tony Leung Chiu Wai plays in In the Mood for Love. If you are willing to watch In the Mood for Love again, I suggest you ignore everything and just watch Tony Leung Chiu Wai's expression. What's more, many important plots of In the Mood for Love are interpreted in those MTV-style scenes. I'm afraid that when these scenes appear, most viewers take the opportunity to take a nap or indulge in the wonderful soundtrack, and have no time to pay attention to the every move of the hero and heroine on the screen. Tony Leung Chiu Wai's performance is the most important factor in In the Mood for Love.

The second reason is "Scissorhands" Zhang Shuping. In the mood for love, there are too few shots without a shot. In In the Mood for Love, Zhang Shuping not only puts on the cheongsam that Maggie Cheung can wear, but also cuts all the shots that can be cut.

For example, there are only two scenes when the cloud invites you to dinner. Wang Ma answered the phone and met in the restaurant. There is no transition in the middle.

If the director and editor-in-chief are replaced, it may take the following shots to make things clear: the bell rings, Wang Ma answers the phone, answers the phone and talks with Yun, and meets at the restaurant.
