history

The swimming part is the first part of Wydad Sports Club "WAC", which was founded on1May 8, 937. The members of the first management Committee of Wydad are Haj Mohamed Benjelloun (Chairman), Maitre Mohamed Zarouk, Mohamed Ben Lahsan, Haj Mohamed Ben Mohamed Ben Lahsan Ben Jelloun, Ralph Botbol and Charles Benchetrit.

With the passage of time, the club also established other departments, such as the tennis department in 1938 and the football department in 1939 (founded by Haj Tounsi alias Père Jégo), and now it has 14 departments, including basketball, handball, boxing, wrestling, cycling and badminton. ...

According to the origin of club naming, there are several versions circulating. In Arabic, Wydad means love. Every historian has his own explanation. However, the viewpoint put forward by Ahmed Lahrizzi in his book "On Huaida" Volume 1 is the most widely circulated and credible. According to this book, in the frequent meetings before the establishment of the club, a founder member was late because he saw the latest movie of actress and legendary Egyptian singer Oum Kaltoum, the name of which was "Wydad". So the founder had the idea of naming the club.
