How do you draw the oil paintings photos made in the photo studio?
1. Choose a theme
Beginners can choose photos or pictures with higher definition and no color cast to copy. Those with a basic sketching background can draw real objects, starting with simple still lifes.
2. Prepare to paint
Professional painters will choose to use nails to stretch the canvas (usually linen) on the wooden board. When nailing, it should not be too tight and leave room for the cloth. There is some room for elasticity, but of course it cannot be too loose, otherwise the painting will be prone to wrinkles. When you start painting, you don’t need to stretch the canvas yourself. You can buy a ready-made frame stretched with cloth. However, if the foundation of the frame is not good, you still need to process it. Apply a few layers of milky white glue evenly, and remember to polish it when it dries, and then buy oil painting base material. 2 to 3 layers, and remember to sand it. Don’t use too coarse sandpaper. It is recommended to use Tianjin Winsor and Newton’s base material. The quality of Marley’s is not as good as before. It doesn’t need to be very thick every time, but it must be even and smooth. .
For general practice, you can pin the oil painting paper to the drawing board with push pins. It is very simple.
You can also paint directly on the wooden board, but it is not easy to save and is not recommended.
As for paint, you can just buy oil paints. Usually you buy a complete set and just add a tube of white. White is more expensive. When matching paints, be sure to buy turpentine. Turpentine is used to mix paints, rinse brushes, and brush palettes, so buy more. You can buy a large glass bottle for storage. Pour some into a small plastic bottle and take it with you. . This is a volatile substance, so be careful to seal it when storing. You can also add flax oil, and the effect will be better when used together.
Brushes depend on the size of the painting you want to paint. Personally, I think small brushes are needed more. Buy a set of different sizes that have the basics, and just use a few small brushes. Don’t buy too many at once. In total, 6 or 7 branches are enough.
3. Start painting
After you start painting, you will become familiar with the properties of the materials and the original painting foundation. You can use pencil when drafting, or you can use transparent colors, mainly colors such as brown and ultramarine that will not turn over (colors such as red and purple are too strong to be used when drafting and will gradually show through in the future, so use Be careful when doing it)
Use turpentine to mix colors. It is equivalent to water in watercolor painting and is the medium for mixing paints. Then slowly increase the proportion of linseed oil. If you only use turpentine oil to paint, the color will be dull and the adhesion will not be very good. First squeeze a little paint onto the palette, then add a few drops of turpentine and mix with a paintbrush or spatula.
After that, it depends on whether you have painting skills. The rules for painting are the same as usual.
After you finish painting every day, you can put the remaining paint into a small plastic bottle, add some turpentine, and cover it for storage. I wipe the palette with turpentine. I'm used to wiping it clean, otherwise the colors won't mix easily and the painting will look dirty. But this is a bit troublesome, and many people are not used to this.
As for the Tao pen, soak it in turpentine and rinse it with water after the color has faded. Or you can press it down with toilet paper and wipe it off. Although it won't be wiped completely, oil paint brushes are different from calligraphy brushes. A little hard sometimes makes it easier to use.
