Happy and Good Luck (2008)

Veradrake, Veradrake (2004)

Willa Drake (Staunton)' s job is to help others have abortions, but her views and practices are in great conflict with the society at that time-Britain in the 1950s, which led to a series of tragedies in her family. The film describes a little-known side of a woman. On the one hand, she devoted herself selflessly to her family, which is an ordinary working-class family, but she loves it very much. She spends a lot of time taking care of her sick neighbors and elderly mother every day. But at the same time, she secretly visited some women.

Mike leigh, a British director who calls himself "a Bohemian between the suburban middle class and anarchism", put an ordinary story into the conflict of various topics about life and choice this time. With his consistent realistic style and calm lens, he brought the plot into the gloomy and depressing environment of the 1950s just after World War II. The technique and structure of this film are traditional, or the technique he has always used, which enters a relatively subjective reality from an objective perspective, but it complements the whole story. There are not too many dramatic scenes, but the dramatic tension has been hidden in the plain style.

All or nothing, winged angel (2002)

Angels with Broken Wings is another work by Li Zhengying with the theme of British blue-collar families. The husband who drives a taxi, the wife who works as a cashier in the supermarket, and two obese children, happiness seems to have gone away from them until the son is suddenly diagnosed with congenital heart disease, and the family begins to communicate again. From the protagonist to their neighbors, almost everyone has endless stories. Mike Li didn't tell you that they lived happily ever after, but he took you through this profound mental journey.

Singing and Playing Topsy Terry (1999)

In the history of world music, there have been several pairs of unparalleled songwriters, such as Mozart and da Pang Di, Rogers and Hammerstein. A hundred years ago, Gilbert, a lyricist on the stage of British operetta, and Sullivan, a composer, were also golden partners. This film does not completely describe the whole process of life or cooperation between the lyricist Gilbert and the composer Sullivan, but intercepts the cross section of their classic operetta Micardo, which shows that talented artists can only spark if they collide with each other.

This movie is a costume movie set in19th century. The luxurious opera house and a pair of opera composers and lyricists are the best partners, making the film a full-length play on the stage, which is amazing. The film is humorous and rich in details, which is of great appreciation value to music and drama lovers. If Shakespeare's love story had not been upstaged by the same theme and style, its influence would have been even greater.

Professional women (1997)

Secrets and lies Lies (1996)

Cynthia and her daughter roxanne live in a shabby and narrow house. The beautiful and fashionable suburban villa belongs to Cynthia's younger brother Morris, who is a photographer, and his snobbish wife Monica, who wants to climb up. After attending the adoptive mother's funeral, Hortons, a wealthy young black woman, set out to find her own biological mother, Cynthia. So the feud of this family gradually evolved into a war of secrets and lies. Although the ending is still happy, it always leads the audience to the truth that life is always crowded.

Most of the plays are improvised by actors. Writer/director mike leigh tells each actor what the role in his/her story is, and then they develop and perfect their roles. Marianne Jean-Baptiste and brenda blethyn had never seen each other before filming the meeting. In order to enhance the natural effect of the performance, mike leigh met with each actor individually and told them only his own role.

Naked (1993)

Johnny is a typical street thug in London in the 1990s, cold, cynical, immoral, anything you can imagine or imagine. He and a group of friends around him abused each other in various cruel and gentle ways, or accepted each other. A complete anti-hero image is close to all aspects of life that you don't want to know. "My feelings for Naked are as complicated as my feelings for the chaotic end of the 20th century, or as complicated as the film itself. I hope it is both interesting and sad, beautiful and ugly, pitiful and disgusting, clever and anarchic. "

Sense of history, A (1992)

Life is sweet (199 1)
