The application of light in photographic film and television production is called light distribution, and the direction and intensity of light are changed by indoor or outdoor photographic lamps to shape the subject.

Whether it is photography or video shooting, light distribution is the main component that determines imaging. After understanding the basic knowledge of light distribution, light distribution is carried out according to the needs of shooting.

There are two main indoor light sources: artificial light and natural light.

The main difference lies in controllability and constraints. In the process of light distribution, natural light and artificial light do not need to be separated and can be used in combination.

Natural light: Not only the sunlight, but also the light provided by natural phenomena can be used by us.

Artificial light: electronic flash, continuous luminous film and television lamp, long fluorescent stick, ice lamp, etc.

Light distribution method

Different scenes can have different effects in the hands of different photographers, but several lighting principles can be applied in the design process, the most classic of which is the "three-point lighting" principle.

Main light: the main light determines the main relationship between light and shade, including the direction of projection.

Auxiliary light: fill in the shadow area and scene area missed by the main light, mediate the contrast between light and dark areas, and form a sense of depth of field and layering.

Profile light: used to separate the subject from the background and increase the brightness of the background.
